Elf skill questions

Post by CoachScott »

A couple of generic Elf skill qestions.

1. Everywhere I look people are always saying that AG/Elf teams should give a lineman 'kick' as soon as possible. Why is it so important?

2. Also people are always saying that Elf teams skill up more quickly than other races, why is this so?

Seriously, people post the above statements all the time, but never explain why. So if anybody could clear this up for me I'd be grateful.

1. use kick to punt the pigskin more accurately (ball bounces less with kick) where you want in oppositions half then use your superior movement (unless your playing skaven or another fairy elf team) to pin them deep in their teritory

2. AG4 players accross the team means throwing & catching are more successful therefore quicker accumulation of star player points (SPPs).

and they are a quick movement team, so plenty of scoring too, again this equates to quicker accumulation of SPPs.

im sure someone could say it a little more concise than i have but hopefully you get the idea, elves are good at speed, throwing, catching and ultimately scoring, oh and getting squished in the dirt (but most bloodbowl players qualify for the latter)

As an elf coach of any flavor, defense is your priority. You need to stop your opponent from safely collecting the ball and entering into a protectd position.

Generally, this is most easily done in the opening two turns of a drive, and one of the best ways to make it happen is to use the kick skill to place the ball a long way away from your opponent's main block of players. Against poor opponents, you'll ensure that you get one or two chances to disrupt the offense. Against good opponents, the team will be more spread out, and you may be able to stop or weaken the foundations of his "protection."

Regarding skill-ups, elves have two advantages.

1) AG 4 means it is relatively straightforward to earn 1 SPP by throwing an accurate pass. That means whomever earns an MVP in one game should have a skill by the end of the next game. This is in marked contrast to some teams, where it might take 10 games or more before a player with 5 SPP's gets to 6!

2) Elf teams tend to score more, as they are are better at it! Scoring is the most reliable way to get SPP's in Blood Bowl. Also, elf teams are not bad at targetted blocking, and shouldn't be too far behind most bashy teams in SPP's, at least through the first 10-15 games.

Its pretty simple really. Elves have good agility and nice movement, so every elf can score, and complete passes (you pass and catch with ag 4) So they earn lots of spp's.

Elven teams of decent speed is very mobile, as you can dodge and move for possition. So, for most elven teams kick is really essential. Woodelves are just extremely quick, highelves and pro elves has quick catchers, so darkelves are maybe the only elven team were kick isnt the first skill to take on a lineelf, they still need it at some point though. Put the ball in a good possition and fight for it with speed and agility.
