Shadowing combined with diving tackle

Post by BrotherKane »

I've been having a discussion with the Vanguard guys about the above combo. I assumed it went as follows:

Opponent dodges - if passed I use shadowing.
If I fail to shadow I use diving tackle to modify the dodge roll so that they fail.

I thought this because diving tackle doesn't seem to specify and shadowing specifies that you may use a player that failed to shadow to attmept a diving tackle.

But do you have to declare the use of diving tackle before your opponent rolls the dodge or can you 'modify' the roll they have already made?

Thanks in advance...

Skill use is declared after the dices are rolled, and that includes diving tackle.
(and you can also use it after he has RR the dodge if you didn't use it at first)

The movement to the other square is resolved before the shadowing skill is used
So GFI, Dodge/Re-roll dice, Diving Tackle, Tentacles. Then if the move is successful you may attempt to shadow.

If that is the case then why does it say in the skill description:

"If a Shadowing roll fails, you can still attempt a Diving
Tackle with the same or a different player"

?

That skill description is not in the current edition of the rules

Fair enough. I must have been using an older version.

Thanks for the help, looks like I'll be rethinking my combo.

It's not entirely useless? You can choose whether or not to use DT, so if they roll a natural 6(or a 5) on the dodge, you can just shadow them instead...

Neither is Pass Block.

I know you know this, but there's just so much other good - and better - stuff to give them.

Sorry to go off track... I always thought you rolled tentacles before the dodge, if they failed to break free then no dodge roll was made as the moving players move ended (so to speak)

Is this incorrect?

Where is that in the rules Dal? Not that I'm saying you are wrong, but FUMBBL client rolls tents before a dodge/gfi (so Tents, GFI, Dodge, DT, Shadowing), and usually Kalimar was quite precise about stuff like that.

Ullis, yeah. I have wondered about Shadowing as a late skill on a blodge, SS, DT gutter runner...in a league dominated by elves, who it's only 4+ to escape you, could be worth while.

I would say the tentacles roll comes before the dodge/gfi rolls. Although not completely specified in the rule book I think this is the way it does it in the cyanide game.

Tentacles (Mutation)
The player may use this skill when an opposing player attempts to dodge or leap out of any of his tackle zones.
I read that as before rolling any dodge dice too.
