Vampire Bloodlust & Scoring

Post by Itchen Masack »

Unsure of the answer to the following unlikely situation, but as it is poosible, I'd like to know the answer please :-) And yes after reading the rules I still dont know :P

Vampire holds the ball in a square next to the endzone.
Fails Blood Lust. There is a thrall in range BUT the only way the Vampire can get to the thrall would be to dodge into the endzone then dodge back out due to the position of opposition players.

Is this allowed or is it a turnover because the Vamp crossed the line without feeding? Wondered if Blood lust changed the mechanics slightly in this situation.

edit: Guess it would also be possible for the Vamp to blitz into the players marking him, but for arguements sake lets assume the dodge in/out of the endzone would be easier rolls.

Actually it has nothing to do with Blood Lust ... he could not do it because of this rule:

Code: Select all

p.15 - If a player from the moving team enters (or was already in) the opposing team's End Zone and has or obtains the ball, then he may not voluntarily leave the End Zone for any reason during the same Action nor may he hand-off or pass the ball - he is far too intent on scoring the touchdown himself!

Cheers, so if attempted it would be a turnover yes?

The wording says he is far too intent on scoring the touchdown himself, but as he cannot score without feeding wondered if the Blood lust rule somehow changed things. Guess not.

he rather moves or pushes the thrall close to the end zone if he want to score first!

Chainpushing a prone Thrall over to a vampire?! I'd love to see it done. Unless I was playing the Vamps at the time :P

my take is he steps into the end zone, scores then is sent off due to failing bloodlust.....goes into reserves and is available immediately to play in the next drive.....

Except he cant score
Blood Lust (Extraordinary)
Vampires must occasionally feed on the blood of the living. Immediately
after declaring an Action with a Vampire, roll a d6: On a 2+ the Vampire
can carry out the Action as normal. On a 1, however, the Vampire must
feed on a Thrall team-mate or a spectator. The Vampire may continue
with his declared Action or if he had declared a Block Action, he may
take a Move Action instead. Either way, at the end of the declared
Action, but before actually passing, handing off, or scoring, the vampire
must feed.
If he is standing adjacent to one or more Thrall team-mates
(standing, prone or stunned), then choose one to bite and make an Injury
roll on the Thrall treating any casualty roll as Badly Hurt. The injury will
not cause a turnover unless the Thrall was holding the ball. Once the
Vampire has bitten a Thrall he may complete his Action. Failure to bite a
Thrall is a turnover and requires him to feed on a spectator – move the
Vampire to the reserves box if he was still on the pitch. If he was holding
the ball, it bounces from the square he occupied when he was removed
and he will not score a touchdown if he was in the opposing end zone
.
So the Vamp will run off into the crowd, dropping the ball, without actually scoring.

Here's a related one. A player with Frenzy declares a blitz, moves into his opponent's endzone while carrying the ball and from a position within the endzone proceeds to hit a player adjacent to the endzone. Does he follow-up into the empty square outside the endzone, or is the blitz an illegal one? Sounds to me like the latter, but I'm interested to know if there are *any* circumstances under which a ball carrier can leave his opponent's endzone while carrying the ball.

It's an auto td... The wording for bloodlust, just to shortcut the next possible question, had to get around he normally auto td....

Edit: was thinking defense....

What in the rules makes it an auto TD? The Blitz action has not completed surely?

I suspect that Frenzy follow-up is not considered a "voluntary" move and that the "must end" bit from p. 15 does not apply.

Rereading p15, I would now say that the blitz is legal (definitely ill-advised), and not a td because the frenzier must follow up....

This is a tricky one but if I was ruling on it from a tournament. I would rule that throwing the first block of the blitz was something that would cause a Voluntary chain of events that would cause the player to leave the end zone and as such the throwing of the block was not allowed.

I considered that, but then the Blitz *starts* outside the endzone!

Declaring the Blitz is totally fine. You can definitely do that.

However declaring a block with a Frenzy player is a voluntary thing and as such could not in my opinion be done from within the opposing end zone.

Declaring a blitz does not require you to throw a block
