And still my idea is the DICE to represent the ref. Way cooler than that painting of yours.

Darkson ever played the old 3rd edition ? Reroll on armour ? Dirty Player + Pro ?

btw i got your pm. i was wondering if i should email it right away or write an explanation; i guess ill simply send, and answer then ok?

Yeah, I know the old 3ed allowed you to use those skills, but no longer.

And yeah, just send it. I might even print it out and give it to a total newbie, along with the LRB version for his (unbiased) thoughts.

If you've got one why not just place the ref mini on the reroll track? Once you foul put him on your 5/4/3/2/1 or whatever. Much nicer and less risky than dice

I typically put the dice on my dugout during my opponents turn to reduce clutter on the board - and remove the chance of confusion over which dice were rolled.

now THE ULTIMATE solution;

Put a "Referee" (small white dice) above or below your turn marker #7;
The "Ref" indicates the minimum Penalty Roll score required to send a player off.

When a coach takes a foul action, the opposing coach may remind him to "move the Ref" one notch lower. Your team's "Ref counter" resets to #7 as soon as the opposing side takes a foul action. Both teams "Ref counters" reset to #7 after each half.

Play by Play:

1st Half, Turn 1. The "Ref counters" are at Turn Marker #7 (2nd Half).

Coach A "This player is going to take a foul action"
Coach B "Move your Ref please"
Coach A "Ok, my Ref is now at 6"
Coach B "Penalty Roll, I need a 6+. 5? Damn!"

Later in the game:

Coach A "This player is going to take a foul action"
Coach B "Move your Ref please"
Coach A "Ok, my Ref is now at 5"
Coach B "Penalty roll, I need a 5+. 5! Your Player is sent off."
Coach A "Argue the call roll. 4. hmpf."

Next Turn:

Coach B: "This player is going to take a foul action"
Coach A: "Move your Ref please, my Ref resets to #7."
Coach B: "Ok, my Ref is now at 6"
Coach A: "Penalty roll, I need a 6+. 6! Your Player is sent off."
Coach B: "Argue the call roll. 6. YES. He Stays."

No dice for ref marker's!!

We have enough trouble leaving the turn dice in place during WFB or 40k, let alone on e the smaller BB pitch.

Ref models much nicer.

Personally, I think Zombie deserves my credits most.
Not often do you encounter someone who states truths such dryly and lucidly that they make you rofl.

Therefore: ALL CHEERS TO ZOMBIE! (IMHO, that is)

Good to know there's at least one person here who likes to hear it "as it is". Most people seem to hate it.

Thanks for the compliment.

I must admit that being up against Toby does make it easier to have people take my side!

Dunno, the problem to me seems to be that most people can't agree on what "is" is.

I'd like to point out at this point that I don't actually think incremental penalty rolls are a good idea. I just gave a mechanic for doing it.

I knew someone would comment on it.

Actually, i'm not totally against their use. But i like it very, very scarce. Otherwise, they just get in the way. And they do have greater impact if you use them only when you really need to.
