Buffing kick off return?

Post by Carnis »

Hey,

I may be in a minority, but my feel is KOR is just not worth the 20k TV that it costs. Hence I wonder if houseruled leagues could benefit from buffing it a bit.

My suggestion is that in addition to the +3 move at the kick it gives +1 to the pickup on the first turn of the drive of the receiving team. Explanation being the player is a specialist in start of drive plays. This would vastly improve the odds of pickups in zones after blitz!'s, picking up with low AG teams like khemri. And I think it might be worth it for dwarf runner style teams as well, while not being too powerful as it does nothing on the other turns of the half. Any opinions?

Kick of return does not need a buff.
Also, kick off return and diving catch is a pretty bust combo, try it out.

Don't think it needs a buff. Seen a lot of players choose to take it (including myself). My Slann team has 2 Catchers with Kick-off Return (a guaranteed free catch roll for a ball landing in any of the back 9 rows).

naa, no buff needed, it does a job. I think it is a nice 6th skill on dwarf runners, slann catchers, not that many players really, but it works well on a few of the slow teams to protect your self from Blitz mostly.

Still... would never have it twice it 1 team mind. Thats too much of a TV bloat for a sub par skill for me anyway.

In a house-ruled league, that seems ok.

Teams with ag access could choose Sure Feet as it gives you extra move all of the time.

What's that got to do with buffing KOR?

What about moving KOR until after the kickoff table? That would be an instant buff, because it would enhance its utility on 5/6 of all Weather rolls (KOR after scatter), representing 5/36 of all rolls, plus all High Kick (use somebody else) rolls, another 1/9, totaling 1/4 so far. Plus, it would have enhanced utility in the face of a Blitz, and maybe Perfect Defence.

Sometimes reduced utility? If the blitzer manages to move a guy in beneath the ball while the KOR guy is waiting?

And what happens if the KOR guy gets marked during the blitz?

yup but i think he means after Kick-off table is rolled and scatter is rolled but before kick-off table and bounce are resolved.

How about "at any point"?

Allow Kick Off Return to be used when receiving or defending against a Hail Mary Pass.

I fall in the "I don't think it needs to be buffed" category. However, if you were to house rule a buff on it I would consider one of the following depending on how much you want to buff it:

- Move 4 (instead of 3)

- Move 3 + an additional d3

- Treat it like you would a high kick on the KO table only the KoR player has to be the one to move.

That last one is getting a bit excessive though. That could really move that player.

I dont think it needs a buff, for some teams its bad value for others its good value, which is a fine thing for any skill.
