Slight Apothecary Modification

Post by gollumullog »

I was thinking that this small addition (or possibly clarification) to the abilities of apothecaries would be quite useful in certain circumstances. Thoughts?

My thoughts are while not explicitly stated I think an apothecary should be able to be used to automatically "heal" a KO'd player, that has not previously recovered. I don't think this use is covered by the original rules, although its a little vague.

So I'm proposing that this be made explicit:
During a match, an Apothecary may attempt to cure a player
who has suffered a Casualty or been KO'd. An Apothecary can
be used only once per match. If the player was KO'd leave him
on the pitch Stunned or in the Reserves box if not on the pitch.
Otherwise immediately after the player suffers the Casualty, you
can use the Apothecary to make your opponent roll again on the
Casualty table (see page 25) and then you choose which of the
two results to apply. If the player is only Badly Hurt after this roll
(even if it was the original Casualty roll) the Apothecary has
managed to patch him up and pump him full of painkillers so that
the player may be moved into the Reserves box. Alternatively, at
kickoff an apothecary can be used to automatically recover
a KO'd player.

There are some who interpret the rules to say you can do that already.

Yep, the third sentence covers it pretty explicitly. However the implication is that the apo should be used immediately after the "injury".

I personally would have argued that I could use it as I stated, but sometimes I get called a rules lawyer and it gets tiring, so I thought it would make more sense to try to get it written explicitly.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.. Now to get the Thunderbowlers to confirm before playoffs :)

Cheers

Yeah, timing is clearly indicated with Apo vs Injury, but not with Apo vs KO. It's possible that many people are playing this wrong. I for one assumed when I first read it that an Apo could auto-recover a player from KO at any time, but when I played fumbbl I saw that they don;t do it that way. So I forgot about the wording and went with the popular consensus.

The wording is ambiguous. Maybe the writers of LRB 6.0 can shed some light on this?

Try a search, as I believe Galak has already discussed this before (try "Galak*" as author and Apo and KO as search terns - I'd do it myself but on a phone, not a pc).
Iirc the intention was as soon as the KO happened but he was ok with a house-rule such as the one written above.

Official ruling is:
Not correct. You have to use him immediately after the injury. Examples of being KO'd and not on the pitch ... when the crowd does the injury.

Tom
So this would go under house rules.

The designer intent is definitely that the apoth is only used at the point the injury occurs, but that isn't what we wrote.

Makes much more sence to use him at the point of injury at all times. For simplicity and game mechanics.S.
