Single Race League

Post by mattski »

Just casting about for opinions on this one. Have always been interested in the idea of a single race league but I know that it has to have enough variety of positions to make it worthwhile. So, in between cooking the turkey and the like I have been working on a possible roster.

Based on Humans and American Football I want to have enough players to support a number of differing play styles but at the same time have no truly dominant players:

Lino 6338 G 50k

Blocker 5329 GS block, stand firm, thick skull 80k

Blitzer 7338 GS block or wrestle 90k

Runner 7337 GA catch, sure hands 80k

Catcher 8237 GA catch, dodge 90k

Scrambler 7337 GAP dump off, sure hands 80k

Passer 6338 GP pass, sure hands 70k

Wall 4429 GS 80k

Halfling 5246 GA dodge, stunty 60k

Safety 6338 GS Horns 60k

Cover 8237 GA pass block, shadowing 80k

Destroyer 6419 GS 80k

Support 6338 GS Guard 70k

Hunter 7337 GA Leap 70k

Equal split between agility and strength availability. Pace if you want it but not too much and more of an emphasis on gaining skills than having higher stats. This is all theory bowl of course but I am hoping that you would be able to build a team any way that you want (i.e. max of 16 players with a hard cap of say 135 and no positional limits).

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly accepted. Merry Xmas to you all as well.

Single Race League

Post by Shteve0 »

Merry Christmas! Though it's now boxing day down here :)

First up, I think your catcher is overcosted. I'd say 60k-70k more accurate.

Runner I'd make catch/sure feet and drop the SH.

The D-o/SH guy has conflicting skills. D-O/NoS might be good, reduces over use of a single skill.

I fear the halfling should drop either a point in AG or that G access. They currently dodge anywhere on 2s and have easy dauntless/wrestle/stripball access.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback Shteve0.

Anyways, here is version 2, or at least an idea for it anyway. Basically I want to have two things happen for this league. 1) Single race to encourage versatile play styles and player transfers / drafts 2) no positional limits. To try and achieve this I started with the basic human lineman of 6338 @ 50k and changed stats using the normal player costs, i.e. each +MA/+AV = +20k, +Ag = 30k and +St =40k. If these stats are reduced then it is half the cost to buy them as a refund. So, if a player has +St then they cost an extra 40k but if they have -St then they cost 20k less.

The other decision that I have made to look at position limits is to use the above rules to make as many different players as I can which cost 60k. This was to represent the fact that players have natural limits and if they are fast then they can't be strong or agile as well. So, using the above I have been working on a player list. No player can have a stat increase/decrease greater than two on their MA/AV or greater than one on their St/Ag. So far the list looks like this:

6338 50k
4428 60k
4339 50k
5339 60k
5427 60k
6248 60k
6418 60k
7246 60k
7337 60k
7328 60k
8237 60k
8326 60k
8228 60k

When a team signs a player they determine which two skill categories they can select from except for the players who cost 50k which are allowed to choose three categories. Players will also be allowed to take a single skill when they first join a team. This means that a team could choose to have a fast 7337 passer and then a very solid backup one (5339).

All still a work in progress of course.

Turns out there is quite a few players that you can make with a cap of 60k. Tweaked the list slightly to make it that St+Ag had to be a minimum of five as I really don't think that many coaches would want an 8228 player.

MA ST AG AV Cost
4 1 4 10 60
4 2 3 10 50
4 2 4 9 60
4 3 2 10 60
4 3 3 9 50
4 3 4 8 60
4 4 1 8 50
4 4 2 8 60
4 4 3 7 60
5 2 3 10 60
5 2 4 9 60
5 3 2 9 50
5 3 3 9 60
5 3 4 7 60
5 4 1 8 50
5 4 2 7 60
5 4 3 6 60
6 1 4 9 60
6 2 3 9 50
6 2 4 8 60
6 3 2 9 60
6 3 3 8 50
6 3 4 6 60
6 4 1 8 60
6 4 2 6 60
7 1 4 9 60
7 2 3 8 50
7 2 4 6 60
7 3 2 8 60
7 3 3 7 60
7 4 1 6 60
8 1 4 6 60
8 2 3 7 60
8 3 2 6 60

What this huge list also does is to allow for teams to share (mostly) a player base but to roleplay somewhat. For example, if you are an MA team then, possibly, you could only choose players who have a minimum of 6 speed. This is still 17 different types of players with 3 St4, 6 Ag4 players but no 10Av players at all. I am thinking about having a draft at the end of each season with a bunch of players who will come with additional skills to begin with and would also allow an MA team to draft a 4428 player.

I know that this seems massively complex and most people could never really be bothered by it but I like the lure of a league in which teams are able to have player migration yet have distinctive styles to them without only one way of playing.

I think a themed league can work but is probably better with more than one roster available. The chaos rules seem to work for a single roster and I've had a bit of a stab different dwarf teams for a league with limited success.
