about kickoff return

Post by Khar-peth »

i want to know something about this MBBL2 league skill:
what if your 3 squares move allow you to be in the square where the ball lands(before it bounces)?can you try to catch it?
i think it's the case otherwise the skill would be of little interest but i want to be sure how you use it...
btw do people in mbbl2 often pick this skill?

I am not familiar with the skill, but if there is a player in the square where ball will land you do get too catch the ball!

The ball bounces when it lands on an empty square. If the square where it lands is ocuppied, it will not bounce. The guy who is occupying it will get a chance to catch it. So if a Kickoff returner gets placed in the landing square, it gets the chance to catch it.

Just a somewhat unrelated note: if one of the MBBL2 skills should be taken into the official rules, it's kickoff return. An excellent skill.

that's the feedback i wanted to hear!
how many matches did you play using it?
it may be very useful for some teams;thinking about goblins willing to score in 1 turn for example...

Hey fellas, can we get a clear description of the skill or failing that a direct link to the page where it might be on the MBBL2 site?

From this initial talk it seems interesting.

Thanks in advance.

It's a general skill and you should find it from the following address.

http://www.blood-bowl.net/Skills.html

The skill is invaluable if you're keeping only one player back to retrieve the ball and that guy is slow (MA 5 or less). Still it is definitely not overpowering, given the fact that it can be used only once per offensive drive.

I haven't gotten to play with Kick Return, Stiff Arm, Jam, Trip Up and Push but they all seem like they should be given serious consideration. They don't sound too unbalanced and would fit into the game perfectly.

There's discussion about Jam and Stiff arm in here:

Personally I'm a bit hesitant to say that those two are balanced, but I haven't seen them used, and AFAIK no one has seen them being used excessively, which is often the situation when skills can be abused.

Kick off return may be subject to abuse by skinks, elves, and skaven. More testing needs to be done, that is to say more teams in mbbl2 type leagues need to use it.

I beg to disagree.
They have sufficiently high movement already so that the skill has only a relatively small effect on the teams capabilities. They can get the ball moving even without that 3 square extra movement. Whereas slower teams are left utterly behind if the ball lands near the EZ - with KOR they can at least get a bit faster start for their drive.

Doesn't it lessen the effects of Kick?

In a way, yes. Are you suggesting that this would be a bad thing?
