Tyranids had all kinds of bio-evolved weaponry.
Disgusting guns with a barrel and a contracting sack spitting out slime and leech like creatures.
Or boneswords, such as these. Probably part of their arms.

And the space dwarfs - zz-top biker dwarfs - were there. As were ratlings (halflings) and ogryns (ogres). AFAIK all of these were actually abhumans: Human colonists changed over time by the planet they were inhabiting.

Cheers
Martin

Since Advanced Space Crusade, so 1990.
They've had swords longer than they didn't.

Squats were abhumans, then they were killed off, then it was intimated they were being rewritten as a completely separate species (Demiurg) then they were (are) forgotten.

Wait, Tyranids can't get Boneswords any more? Even less reason for me to unpack my Tyranids from 1998 and finish painting them.

And if Squats blow your mind ... ...

I started off with Warhammer; then due to losing my collection I decided to move to 40k. I started with Squats........actually Space Dwarfs. It was a bit confusing as some boxes were labelled Squats and some Space Dwarfs. My original assumption was that Space Dwarfs were the good guys and Squats were the bad guys (I was very young).

So I took the train to Hammersmith without my parents knowing and spent an age routing around the blisters and boxsets for 'Space Dwarfs' and not 'Squats'. I guess when first released they had everything labelled Space Dwarfs to entice a crossover, then tried to separate the 2 games. The shop must have thought I was mad.

There just wasn't the appeal with them to be honest, they sucked in almost every way and just didn't have a niche. Elves and Orcs they did a great job with, but Dwarfs got the ugly stick big time. Needless to say I didn't spend much time with 40k and I was convinced to give BB a try when the new 2nd edition box was released.

Funny story about those Squat mutants at the bottom. I remember seeing that blister in a shop and looking at it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I realised that there were 6 miniatures in there instead of the usual 2.99 for 5. I couldn't believe my eyes!! I was past 40k by then, but had to have them and built them to be CD blood bowl players and started my love for CD miniatures.

Honestly, while playing my 40K Marines I've never seen any Tyranid with a sword, that's why I was so surprised.

I wonder if all those 9000 points Ultramarines are still there...

Perhaps they aren't very good in the current edition.

I know the Swarmlord has four of the things!

I have about 20 of those chaos squats in a box somewhere. My wife was looking at them last summer and she said I should ebay them.
Are they worth anything these days?

Most important new info from that is that the game will be out within 12 months. Earlier posts said it was due 2017, so I guess that means first quarter of 2017.
Don't you just love that they have a rumor/advert about blood bowl and 95% of the comments are about something other than BB?

More than likely, but check sites like Oldhammer first, as they can give you a good idea of the worth of old GW figures.

Depends which ones, and prices are all over the place nowadays. Collecting old Warhammer figures isn't as popular as it was say 10 years ago. Add to that, that Warhammer itself has been deaded off means that Warhammer figure pricing is in a state of well uncertainty.

Chaos Dwarfs are my thing so I can give you some advice on them. Firstly, knowing for sure whether your figures are authentic may help. There was a lot of recasting (problem is that Citadel did a lot of recasting themselves) which of course decreases the value. Secondly There are 3 sets of figures from this page. The top ones are in power armour and the most valuable. They came with a plastic powerpack on the back. This adds to the likelihood of them being authentic. So if you have any of the top 3 with the plastic powerpack they may go for a fair bit. Exact prices are impossible due to the auctioning nature of ebay and the state of flux right now. I'd say around £6 to £20 each depending on the condition and definite authenticity.

The next batch are in exo armour. There are a lot of these around, so not as valuable, not as nice looking. The arms are separate (all metal) so less chance of lost pieces. There were several Squat Exo armoured too. So there's a lot of room for different variations.

The last set are the standard Chaos Squats. These came with plastic arms and plastic weapons. They were the same as the Squat plastic arms and weapons that came with the metal range and in the 'Space Dwarf' plastic boxset. So there's a better chance of replacing these or adding them to recasts. So........having the arms and weapons adds to their authenticity but isn't definitive.

I have had some some normal squats sell pretty cheaply on ebay. So this last batch could go as little as £2 (doubtful though as they have tons of character) upwards. I wouldn't expect them to go as high as £10 though. If you have several you are in a bit of a situation. The more you sell together the less you'll make per figure, however the more you'll save on postage. UK postage prices have really damaged the ebay industry making anything worth less than £4ish pointless. Remember although the customer pays postage, it is coming out of your profits as they'll bit less to compensate.

I think they had them in 3rd Edition; disappared in 4th and returned in 5th edition but were only used on the Swarmlord or a Warrior-Prime. Big stomy monsters did not need swords added to which GW did not make any new sprues with Tyranid swords making them less popular. I made some conversions for my Tyrant to be a Swarmlord.

Not much of a BB update: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2016/04/ ... fleet.html
"…BTW I was told the bird head of the new Archaon mount was “very similar” to the LOC head, so take from that what you will. It’s difficult to say really because back when I was in the loop I was hearing about (and in some cases seeing) stuff about 2 years before release. Some eagle eyed viewers even spotted the high elf lord plastic kit assembled and in the background of my painting desk in one of my project logs about 8 months before it was released. It’s the same as blood bowl, those rumours by myself and Harry were based in fact, BB update was coming, it got underway and then got canned (IIRC due to very very poor sales of dreadfleet), then it restarted, then it was canned again, now it’s back. That has always been the problem with reporting rumours so far in advance (i.e. more than 1 year). When you get inside the 1 year mark the releases are largely set in stone, in fact I am only aware of 1 time a release did not happen, and that was for the dwarf lord clampack when the mold genuinely was damaged).

…The plan is and always has been AFAIK 2 years, I’ve never read anywhere about a solid four year plan for releases. Me & Harry reported back mutterings of BB, each time it restarted, with rumours though you are never totally on the pulse, for example I did not hear it had been canned the first time around until rumour came of the project being restarted. The releases aren’t that flexible certainly inside of 2 years. What did surprise me was that Dreadfleets sales (or lack of) were taken as some sort of “stand alone games aren’t selling” when BB is an entirely different beast with a huge following already! Dreadfleet actually only started out life as a pet project for one of the studio staff, it was not originally planned to be a item available for sale."
Dreadfleet has so much to answer for. ;)
