TYT news service recently used one that I thought was quite good: Behead & Shoulders.

Love this thread and figured I'd chime in with one of my own. I'm currently building a custom pitch and everything is in the details, huh? :D

Thought this one up this morning and haven't seen the idea tossed around the forums, so I guess you could call it an original creation? 8)

Made a few new ones that I plan to use. The Tuborg is a classic, but the other ones are my own pathetic ideas. :D

Thanks a bunch! Working on a custom pitch, which I will present in a thread of its own: Seafarer Stadium of Marienburg.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed these ads! I have made good use of them recently for my pitch.

I tried printing them as transfers with some laser printer transfer paper and the results have been interesting so I thought I'd share here.

The transfers came out fairly sketchy - you can see that where the laser toner didn't adhere well to the surface you get a sort of chipped paint effect.

Image

I may have to fiddle with the printer settings, perhaps trying "transparency" setting - though I don't have very many sheets of transfer paper to actually test things out on.

For my purposes here the flaked paint actually works very well - as you can see my billboards (made from balsa wood) aren't exactly in good condition so the transfers add to the general decrepitude of the billboards. My pitch is a wood elf glade and in the forest nature no doubt tends to break down anything artificial in time.

Image

The actual transfer film is very thick, compared to what I'm used to with proper transfers. You could easily manhandle the transfer once it had come away from the backing paper. Again, this is fine for the purpose of printing bloodbowl billboards.

I REALLY like that look! What brand of transfer paper did you use? I've looked for similar things before but never found anything suitable. I am planning on making a scoreboard with a similar look and wouldn't mind some tips.

It is just un branded paper that I got on ebay - from a seller called mrdecalpaper.

As for tips on the scoreboard itself, if you want a similar look, then once you've made the board from balsa, rough up the edges with a knife, then I painted the wood in a dark brown and a few drybrushes mixing the brown and grey. Then for the painted side I applied crackle glaze and then the off white paint. The crackle glaze is used by people who want to make furniture look rustic and is what cracks the paint above it.

Thanks for that! I'll try out a few different bits and post up my results (if they're any good  )

The dodgy printing would be frustrating if you wanted clean new looking art, but for worn pitchside hoardings it works perfectly.

Might have to investigate decal paper properly, it's been on my mind for several years now for a couple of different projects.

Decal or transfer? It seems there are multiple ways to apply (water, heat, pressure...) and for different targets (ceramic, fabric...), and of course, for different printer types (laser, inkjet...).

Your result reminds me of the cheap one, print with laser printer and thin paper, cover the surface with acrylic medium, then push the paper and let dry. Hours later soak with water and peel the paper away.
