Converted Shadowforge elves

Post by parintachin »

Hey Fantasy footballers

I've been messing around with an elf team for a while.

I chose the Shadowforge elf team, but didn't like the helmets they come in, so I removed all their heads, gave them Hasslefree bald heads and grey-stuffed hair on all of them.

Here's the outcome:

The entire team:

A couple players

And the treeman, which is the only unconverted mini on the roster:

I like them. But the red bases stick out like a sore thumb (especially in the picture). I would have used a dulled down red instead, especially as the yellow looks less bright too.

Beautiful conversions ! I like them a lot.

Where did you find their heads ? Did you sculpt them ? It seems to be complete conversion, I don't recognize the Shadowforge Elfettes' heads.

Thanks for the nice words (o:

The bases are colored to make it easy for my opponent to see what each mini represents - red for Blitzers (wardancers) white for throwers, yellow for catchers .. They do indeed look a tad garish on these pix, but when looking at them on the field, it's just nice to be able to identify them at a glace.

The heads are from Hasselfree; mostly the elf heads, but I used a couple of the human female heads as well, just for variety.

By the way, I have to note here that Hasselfree is the most pleeasant company I've done business with, Ever - nice little handwritten note from Sue, candy, extra goodies .. Fantastic (o:

These are great!
A very nice idea. I like shadowforge fine, but always felt the detailing in the heads was a bit lacking- this really worked out nice.

I am not a fan of the colored base edges personally. I think it'd be very easy for your opponent to spot the different player types- the wardancers have red mohawks and the catchers have big padded gloves up in the air...seems pretty easy to tell them apart. Granted I have seen teams where it is more of an issue- but not with this team. I think you'd have been fine with black edges for all the bases.

re: Hasselfree. I completely agree- what a great company. I have ordered from them twice now and always been happy with their service- and the inclusion of a little note & candy was a nice touch. Those little tart pirate treasure candies were pretty good actually :)

Dear me :o You've managed the seemingly impossible - those Shadowforge minis look superb! I now realise it's the cruddy heads I don't like, but the rest of them is great. Thank you

Yeah, I find the Shadowforge Elf helmets a bit weird. Great to see what you've done with them, I think I may do something similar when I eventually get my Elves.

I like the Shadowforge Elves as they are, but nice job.

Re Hasslefree: Some of their range make terrific sideline minis (painting the Bar wench to be the Apoth of my Valkyrie Amazon/Human team). Also I agree that they, along with Heresy, are absolutely incredible. Why would anyone want to give Granny money when we have Impact!, Heresy, Hasslefree, Shadowforge, Gaspez etc etc. Better quality minis, better quality service, just plain BETTER.

Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of online purchasing as I prefer to walk into a games workshop store, order on there computer in the shop and pay for it at the shops counter there and then, but I agree with you as some of these independent stores (is that the correct term?) make some brilliant models including the Shadowforge Elves on this thread, but until they get an atcual shop I can walk in and pay for it there and then... sadly I will have to stick to giving Grandma Wendy money.

On the subject of Shadowforge when I first got my bunny girls for my Amazons I thought MEH. but they paint up beautifully. Same with my mates Dark Elves and also the Humans I got to make up the numbers in my GW human team. 2 girl blitzers and two girl catchers on my team.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

That's what independent game shops are for! If there is one around you and stock those companies miniatures of course, luckily the one I play in carries a nice range and has all the Shadowforge Gridiron teams.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes to color code the players. Worked my Dark Elves to color their helmets using the old 2nd edition base colors for position, works like a charm.
