I appreciate the concerns people have with personal data leaks generally but I wonder if I am alone in thinking this thread has gone too far. I love and collect Pedro Ramos BB miniatures. There is this little Spanish group that wants to sell Pedro Ramos BB miniatures. They probably took my email address from one of the other three Spanish groups that also are selling Pedro Ramos BB miniatures. The only reason we have these Pedro Ramos BB miniatures in the first place is that none of these Spanish groups respect the IP of the much unloved miniatures company that created BB (and that company is most kindly ignoring the breach even though it is apparently soon rereleasing it). I see us as a little fraternity. It's not like they're trying to sell me viagra, insurance or ask if I want to make a personal injury claim (which is the usual nature of emails from people I don't know). So I have ordered five of their Pedro Ramos two-headed gobbos for myself and someone from my BB gaming group and good luck to them. If I don't ultimately get them, then I think that would be something to be upset about.

no, you're not. I ordered the drunken dwarf from them as I too love PR sculpts. i really don't need any more goblin minis, or i would have ordered one of those two-headed minis as well.

To Texas!! What was that. Seven bucks for the mini; fifty bucks for the postage?

wasn't too bad. i think it was about $15 total after the conversion. i PROBABLY should have gotten the two-headed goblin as well to ease the shipping cost a little, but i didn't...

Yes, I agree with pretty much everything Stompie said.
Overkill in the responses to the unexpected mails.
I have bought from them before and likely will again.
Great miniatures.

If you are not concerned about this, it's your decision.
Other do tend to worry about their data and where they go.

Generation facebook may ignore that, I choose not to.
That's nothing to do with overkill, it's about respect for others.

By the way, GG seems to choose to not respond to my e-mails any more.
This makes me think even more that my data went some fishy way into their hands, which definitely doesn't help me change my mind about them.

you've made that comment several times now. given the average age of blood bowl coaches, I would say that very few, if any of us on this forum are "generation facebook." I know i'm not. i'm not upset about it, because as I already said, I have a throw away email address to use for things like this because it's inevitable that it's going to happen. the only way to guarantee that your email address is never going to be shared is to never use it. period. same thing with any other personal information. I work in IT and I see personal information being compromised everyday.
I get it, your email address got to someone who you didn't give it to. you're upset. ...but it's been 10 days now since your first post. it happened, you've let everyone know that you will never buy from GG because of it numerous times. maybe it's time to move on.
i'm not trying to be a jerk, and I hope I don't come across that way. i'm just thinking that continuing to be so mad about it can't be good for your blood pressure, and going back to my earlier assertion about the average age of BB players... can any of us really afford to let our blood pressure get up and stay up like that? :)

In Spain (and probably EU), this is not about generations but the law. Some companies (OK, I only remember one currently) even self denounced themselves to the agency in charge, and gladly paid the fine, when they fumbled (same thing, CC instead of BCC).

It's all fun and games... until the leak is something else. Then some had to do lot of work to fix it (cancel cards because the numbers were leaked... even if there are ways to just not need them), or live with it if no way to fix it (next job or insurance agency may not want to "forget" what they found even if that should never have been public), but it seems hardly anybody learns.

Edit: typo.

Im not certain he is entirely unjustified to continue in being upset by it ; i suspect his continued post stems from a lack of adequate response or apology from GG. If they were to post and say "such and such happened", "wont happen again" and "very sorry", that the matter will probably be closed and leaving people to buy or not buy from them as they see fit.

As it is, that hasnt happened - not even in private to him (apparently).

For the record, my blood pressure is adequately medicated for, so i should be fine. ;)

i'm not saying that an apology/acknowledgment isn't in order, i'm simply saying that since one doesn't seem to be forthcoming despite a week and a half of negative comments on the issue, maybe it's time for people to focus their energies elsewhere. if you feel that a law was broken, alert the appropriate authorities and let them deal with it.
I just don't have enough energy to spare these days to let other people/companies get and keep me so worked up.

But you seem to have enough energy to continuously tell other people that they should leave GG alone...

Really, you might shrug your shoulders with your throw-away-e-mail but this is about my main adress and I've got enough spam already.
If GG thinks it's okay to get adresses in an illegal way, won't they also think it's okay to give them to others as well, maybe even for money?

For me it's a serious issue and as long as they don't come forward with an explanation, I'm pissed off.
Why don't you just skip my posts? Noone makes you read them.

Continuously? Seriously? I made what, 2 maybe 3 posts suggesting your time and energy might be better spent in other ways than saying the exact same thing over and over again for 10 days and I'm somehow continuously telling people to leave GG alone? Did I not suggest you contact the proper authorities in my last post if you felt they had done something illegal? Does that really sound like I'm suggesting anyone leave them alone? Sheesh...You're the one flogging that dead horse into a bloody pulp, not me.
Have a good day, sir. I'm done with all of this.

The problem is that whether you intend to or not, the fact that you are telling someone who is upset about a privacy violation to chill out and get over it gives the impression that you are defending the people who committed the privacy violation. Since it doesn't bother you, and you are advocating that others shouldn't be bothered either, you're very close to saying that it's not a big deal and hence that it's not such a terrible thing to do.

It's fine to express your opinion, but when someone else is legitimately upset about something, then stating that they shouldn't be bothered because it doesn't bother you isn't very helpful since it seems like you are belittling the other person's reaction.
