My recipe is as follows:

1. White primer
2. Base coat of Citadel Yriel Yellow
3. Wash the base coat with Vallejo transparent orange
4. Touch up with Citadel Yriel Yellow
5. First highlights with Citadel Flash Git Yellow
6. Second highlights with Citadel Flash Git Yellow + white
7. Final highlights with Citadel Flash Git Yellow + more white

@Norse I used this recipe for both miniatures

I don't usually use Citadel paints, but I find that their yellows are actually quite good.
Thanks for the recipe. I tried something similar to yours today (but with Vallejo paints).
Not sure if I'll stick with the color scheme. It's a lot of yellow (bad picture using my phone, but you get the idea).

Do you varnish your miniatures after painting?
My yellow came out a bit shiny, but I recon that the matt varnish might fix that.

I like the yellow, but I think there's too much of it. Less is more, something like that

I tend to agree. Your miniature is wearing more armor than mine and would probably look better in a less bold color.

Yes, always.

I would never consider playing with my miniatures without a good coat of varnish. I have tried many different combinations of varnish, but the one I use at the moment is as follows:

1. A coat of Vallejo gloss varnish (Brushed on)
2. When the gloss varnish has dried for at least 24 hours I give the miniature a coat og Model Master Dullcote (Again brushed on)

I've have had disastrous results with Testor's Dullcote in the past. It seemed to eat the gloss varnish and destroy the paintjob underneath. heartbreaking.

Yes, that's the problem. I don't have enough black areas to compensate.
Hence, I'm stripping the miniature and starting over. Still like the yellow and might to a dark side cowboys scheme instead, but with a dark blue.

I'll try it on some armor prices this time and not go for a complete miniature directly. I probably should have gone that route from the get go 8)

Your bravery in cutting up OOP elves of various flavours is impressive. The fact that your conversion and painting skills exceed that bravery is fantastic.

I look forward to watching this project come to fruition.

My guess is it's an 80s war dancer with a head swap and a GS shoulder pad. :smoking:

You are both right.

The shoulderpad was sculpted to make it look like the one on the Tuern Redvenom miniature.

may I ask why you crosshatch score the top of the base? is this so flock/sand sticks more easily??

Thank you so much. I score the base so the PVA glue will stick better to the base when it's dry. It's also easier to apply the glue when it has something to "hold on to".

I also score the metal parts where they will be glued together when I convert miniatures. That way the bond will be much stronger.

I do that on metal joins as well, but I have never seen it done on plastic bases..
