Underworld/sewer/Skaven pitch WIP & Slann pitch WIP

Post by the solitaire »

With the help of my girlfriend I am now, after finishing my moor pitch and dungeonbowl field, working on a graveyard.

The work started much like on the moor pitch I made, but instead of using sand for the base of the field I used a mixture of sand and shredded leaves and whatnot which I collected in a forest nearby, dried and then glued liberally on the pink foam.

Like the moor field I cut out the dugouts and arranged turn counter and score counter along the sidelines (in this case behind the touchdown zone)

This is what the field looks like at the moment

Image

There is still some work to do. We collected some twigs which will be placed to represent cut down trees. In the center piece of the field we will create a small diorama (the graveyard hill with the small altar holding the Necronomicon as shown in Army of the Dead)

Another idea which found it's way in to the final field can be seen below

I figured luminexcent paint would add a bit of undead character to the field ;)

I just added 2 layers of gloss clearcoat. Tomorrow will see some final detail painted on and then two layers of matte clearcoat.

More pictures will follow after the clearcoat dried.

As promised, a few more photos of the now nearly finished gaming board. The design is intended to serve as base structure for a foldable case for easy transport. Still working on th edetails there though.

With the little amount of light the evening provided and a speedlight I tried to make things look somewhat natural. The final pictures of the finished board will be taken with daylight and without flash.

Axe, not sure yet how playing on the board is. I have not tried that because I have not yet finihsed all the detail stuff.

The miniatures were placed on the board at random ;)

I think it will be a nice board to play on, even if the turn counter/score counter fields might be a bit confusing.

I must say that it was a lot of fun making this one, and I really enjoyed that my girlfriend helped me a lot as well. At this stage I would like to say it's finished though and move on to the next project ;)

We just started work on a new Bloodbowl pitch

This one with a sewer theme to it. It's a smaller sized board that I could leave on the livingroom table most of the time. Because of the smaller size I had to rearrange a few of the items like the score counter (now only 7 instead of 8 fields), turn counter and the dugouts (3 fields of 3"x3" each)

Image

I wanted to use large amounts of acrylic water on this one so I decided to build a sewer cutout with 2 submerged channels and only the central piece of the field raised.

Another feature, mainly for cosmetic reasons, walls on 3 of 4 sides which allow for many many small details adding to the sewer feeling

Image

The raised sections were glued to the wooden base first and were left to set overnight

Image

Layout of the gaming area and the first detailing on the walls

Image

I am so happy that my girlfriend cuts out and details the walls while I work on other bits and pieces. Still, the both of us already look forward to the day where all the walls and tiles are done, all detail is carved into the styrofoam and we can start painting and adding the really nice details as well as plentyful water effects

Here is another side project we are working on

Image

Image

A little cabin in the woods. We have some work done on the trees but most of the trees are still early WIP and desperately need leaves

Image

Where there is a bridge, there is a body of water. We want to add a small creek, which means more need for water effects

Image

When the board is done it will be full of trees. Not just 2 or three but something that really resembles dense forest.

Progress is slow but it's there

We cut up some cardboard (Pringles) cans and glued selitac to both sides, then started drawing and cutting out the stonework on them.

Image

This is boring tedious work, even when done by two people
