No love for the troll? And if yes, why not?

Post by JaM »

I've seen quite a lot of new, shiney, sometimes quite big new Bloodbowl miniatures.
Lots of nice new Big Guys too.
Lots of Ogers (ofcourse, they have their own team) and recently some nice Minotaurs.

But I am really missing the trolls here. There are not a lot of nice trolls out there (certainly compared to the level of ogres and minos atm), and a lot of them are quite big. Too big, in fact. At least, so big that, with some decent sized black orcs or 2 other big guys, there's not a lot of room on the pitch. Nuffle forbid if you have to lay them down...

So, who's starting to make 'us' a decent troll? Not to big, think 2nd edition/ Impact!Ogre sized. I personally like the Black Scorpion one (link: http://www.comixininos.com/media/catalo ... /troll.jpg, in style. But surely there must be more of these 'out there'? I mean, we have a LOT of different Ogres and Minos at the moment. Where are the trolls? :o

On a lighter note: please dont report this post for trolling. :|

the one from impact is so nice too

The ones from Willy's Goblin Team are great. Saturno is my favorite (Willy have a lot of trolls minis)

This one from RNestudio is great

And this from Hordes (too big I think)

I like the classics too.

I traded a leaguemate for the original Ripper troll, remember this guy:

When I eventually buy goblins, I am heavily leaning toward Uscarl, in large part because I like their trolls best of what's on the market:

Well, we allready discussed the favorite troll matter already.

I think the answer to your question is simple: There are so many already.
And somehow they have to fit to the team, which can be Orc, Goblin, Chaos Pact or Underworld.
There are a lot of design choices to be made, so it's not easy.

Most of the trolls posted are quite big... Ripper-scale and up.

So, why is it possible for 'studios' to come up with decent sized ogres but why are the trolls so big?

I saw quite a bit of minis during the WC (and on the internet in general) and, even if it's not always my cup of tea, I understand scale creep. But really, it seems we are back to BGs who occupy 4 squares.

Will check out the rest of the posted trolls, no worries. :) But I have a hard time finding suitable trolls for different teams, while it seems the ogre market is quite full already. I'd like to see that with trolls as well.

Yes, most of them 45mm tall and bulky.
If you want them smaller Impact has the superpunch troll, Black scorpion has one with a good pose for size, and then you can always search as I did some troll marauders from warhammer or second edition trolls from blood bowl,

I just saw this one in a kickstarter campaign:

Unfortunately, it's on a 60 mm base, a real monster!
