High Elf team: the High Veld Lions

Post by JT-Y »

High Elf Blood Bowl team.

All the models are made from High Elf Shadow Warriors with the addition of the stylised lion shoulder pad from the White Lions of Chrace kit and a simple shoulder pad from a Cadian Guardsman.

Blitzers feature a command head from the White Lions kit and a clawed gauntlet.
Catchers all have the same bare head from the White Lion kit with the topnots changed for variety. The catchers mitts are made from Green stuff.
The Thrower is a simple matter of using a pointing arm from the White Lion kit.

The Star Player uses more parts from the White Lion kit, the torso is a conversion combining the White Lion cloak with the Shadow Warrior high neck/hood.

The staff and the turn/reroll markers come from a High Elf bolt thrower kit, whilst the Cheerleader is a Delf sorceress.
I must admit to having left this too late and GW had discontinued the Alariel model I wanted to use so this Delf sorceress is very much a second choice. But that's okay, the northern borders of Chrace and Nagarythe, where this team hails from, are very close to Nagaroth and the denizens are very similar to the Dark Elf cousins in many ways.

Like I said on the Facebook group, you make capes look good and I'm opposed to capes on football figures.

Very nice, I particularly like the very warm colour palatte with your warm blonde, skin tone, gold and reds. The metallics are especially nice (or maybe it's just that I struggle a little with metallics that makes me appreciate them more)!

In terms of the conversions, the positionals all stand out and are easily identifiable, and the team looks dynamic whilst still being very functional on the pitch. Great use of existing kits to create a characterful and interesting team.

Personally I'm not so keen on roman numerals for elves, as they're more angular than I envisage elven script being, but I guess elf numerals would be less pragmatic during gameplay. I also don't like the angle of a lot of the wrists, as it doesn't look right without them brandishing a weapon; still, I know how much of a faff it is to change that, so if it doesn't bother you as much as it does me I can totally see why you skipped it!

As ever, I love the extras you've done. The coaching staff and counters really help round out the team.

Lastly, what was the reasoning behind the monochrome capes? With your talents I'd have liked to see you go to town with the freehand on them!
