A strange request: Looking for an Underwater Treeman

Post by Babs »

OK - you've seen sharks playing Blood Bowl:

And even: Image (Really?)

You've seen Cthulhu 'deep ones' for Blood Bowl:

What I'm after is a Coral style or Seaweed type Treeman. A shipwreck Treeman would also suffice.

Think like this, but less cartoony.

Any suggestions?

Actually, the terms "Treeman" and "underwater" in one sentence also have the term "not" nearby.
Just the idea of a tree growing below the oceans surface seems pretty weird.

Then I thought, maybe someone created a treeman that isn't supposed to be a sea creature but may be painted in a way to look like one.
And I think GW themselves do exactly that:

KURNOTH HUNTERS
Image

The Kurnoth Hunters look a bit like corals have grown on them, don't you think? They come with 50 mm bases so they should be sized like a big guy.
I think the right paintjob can work wonders here. Also, they come in a set of three with several options for weapons, so maybe weaponsnips might be good enough for a conversion.

There are more in this style, unfortunately on 105 mm oval bases, so way to large.

Then you need to expand your knowledge a little;

Great thinking - the Coral Golem looks like a winner - but I can't find it in their own store!?! Also - I think it would be a mission and a half to paint!
The Kurnoth Hunters also look like a great choice!

Keep them coming guys!

Coral Golem was part of the Bones 3 Kickstarter, which backers have just about finished receiving. It's supposed to be in the Reaper store by December, but you might find it before then in local stores or eBay.

Steve - thanks! I eventually figured out it wasn't going to be in stores until December. If you know of anyone in the kickstarter, I'd be keen to see a scale comparison on it.

@Lunchmoney:
Looks more like drowned trees than actually trees grown under water to me.

@Babs:
Anyway, tried to find something else but came up empty handed.
Most miniatures are animal-like creatures if you look for underwater themes.
Not even water elementals were even remotely close to what you are looking for.

How about a conversion job on some aquarium coral?

Not sure how big the knight is, but this is from the kickstarter page.

Giant clam, hermit crab or nautilus maybe? Doable with some shells and a bit of putty. Or a fish tank plant, just add eyes. Some other, already made, random ideas:

BTW, mangroves live with a lot of salty water.

Boobs on a shark? There has to be a joke about my ex-wife in there, though I'll refrain.

I hadn't thought about a 'Swamp Thing' sort of mini, but that would probably be my goto. There is a D&D creature called "The Shambling Mound", and it looks like there are a few of those miniatures out there. Here are a few from a quick Google search:

Image

This one looks like the Marvel Comics "Man-Thing" to me, so it might be a conversion:
Image

Also, looks like Man-Thing:
Image

Maybe with some added barnacles, starfish:
Image
Image

Looks to be a decent size, but looks more like 'Chaos Tree' to me:
Image

Something with a touch of humor:
Image

Then I found an image (sorry, it's photo bucket!), that has pictures of four of these minis altogether. Nice, because you can see the different sizes.

I now have quite a few ideas for alternative Treemen to boot! :D
