Re-stuns

Post by sann0638 »

Carried over from the NAF clarifications doc - if one of your players who starts the turn stunned gets stunned again (e.g. through ball and chain, bloodlust or bomb) do they flip over at the end of that turn, or have to miss another turn.

My take (and what it says on the website) is they miss another turn, because of the CRP p11: "A player may not be turned face up on the turn that he is stunned". However, in the sentence before, "all face down players are turned face up at the end of the turn".

Thoughts? From Galak, ideally :)

Lex specialis derogat lex generalis.

"all face down players are turned face up at the end of the turn" is general rule.
"A player may not be turned face up on the turn that he is stunned" is a special situation (it happens quite less often).

The special rule, in its specific case, takes precedence over the general rule.
It's a general principle of law (and rule) interpretation.

Ooh, latin. We win! ;)

I suppose the question is whether it is "on the turn he was originally stunned" or "on the turn that he was most lately stunned".

On the turn it was stunned. Either first or second time.
If it was on the turn it was originally stunned or most lately, doesn't matter.
If it is not specified it reads as both.
If the rulemaker wanted differently he should have said so.

Here comes the latin again.....
Ubi lex voluit dixit, ubi noluit taquit.

P.S. I agree it isn't 100% clear, but using the general rules for interpretation it reads like that.

What Rolex said ... most specifically: "If it is not specified it reads as both."

So if a Stunned player is Stunned again ... he would not flip over at the end of the turn.

Wow, logical, but I've never seen it played as that before.

This may be 'Friday brain' but I am confused...... :-?

Surely a player is generally only going to get Stunned in the other team's turn; and is only going to flip over from face down to face up in his own team's turn?

The only situation I can think of where this is relevant is when I am playing Goblins and one of my Goblins is - at the start of my own turn - lying Stunned (having just been pummeled by an opponent). I try to deal with that opponent with my Fanatic / Bombardier but accidentally hit and Stun my own Goblin again - who, thus, doesn't get to turn face up at the end of my Turn after all.

Have I missed something, or is this 're-stunning' really quite a rare occurrence and only applicable to certain teams?

Ta! :D

Yep, it's rare - big ones are bombs, ball and chain and bloodlust. TTM is also possible if you land on your own player. There may be others, can't think of any atm.

OK on the weird kick off table.

Every player scoring a 6 is stunned.

Kick off.

End of turn, are the players unstunned?

End of defences first turn, are the players unstunned.

Techically I'd say yes because they were stunned prior to the turn starting.

Sounds right. the turn doesn't start until the kick off phase is resolved.

At the end of each player's first turn the players are unstunned, so they miss the first turn.
