Stunned Vampire and Hypnotic Gaze

Post by lunchmoney »

ddark has just told me about a debate happening on the stalkerbook. As many of you may know, I don't use FB so I cannot weigh in on this, hence bringing it up here.

ddark says that someone asked what skills can be used whilst stunned and the list of Extraordinary skills were pointed out. And that included Hyno Gaze.

ddark says it was questioned and Galak has apparently stated you can use HG whilst stunned.

I agree that Extraordinary skills can be used whilst stunned, but I am having to disagree on this one (until such time as I am proved wrong).
Hypnotic Gaze (Extraordinary)
The player has a powerful telepathic ability that he can use to stun an
opponent into immobility. The player may use hypnotic gaze at the end of
his Move Action
on one opposing player who is in an adjacent square.
Make an Agility roll for the player with hypnotic gaze, with a -1 modifier
for each opposing tackle zone on the player with hypnotic gaze other
than the victim's. If the Agility roll is successful, then the opposing player
loses his tackle zones and may not catch, intercept or pass the ball,
assist another player on a block or foul, or move voluntarily until the start
of his next Action or the drive ends. If the roll fails, then the hypnotic gaze
has no effect.
My bold. That is very clear. You can only use HG as part of a Move Action.
INJURY TABLE
2D6 Result
2-7 Stunned – Leave the player on the pitch, but
turn him face-down. All face-down players are
turned face up at the end of their team's next
turn, even if a turnover takes place. Note that a
player may not turn face up on the turn he is
Stunned. Once face-up he may stand up on any
subsequent turn using the normal rules.
Nowhere in that box about becoming Stunned does it say a player can take an action. All they can do is be turned face up at the end of the turn. Ergo as the player cannot take a Move Action, they cannot use Hypnotic Gaze.

As mentioned this was given to me third hand, I haven't seen the debate. So it may be that ddark as misinterpreted (or mis-quoted when telling me) the info given on that site. If that is the case, then there is no debate. However...

Tom was definitive on Facebook, but less so here: http://talkfantasyfootball.org/viewtopi ... &start=120

I'm taking vampires this weekend and won't be trying to gaze from prone. Nor will I be rolling to block with a fanatic before doing the required GFI, but both are the case by the letter of the law.

Time for a new rulebook... ;)

It's Gaze from Stunned I object to.

If its the discussion on FB I think it is it was about prone vampires not stunned ones, as I was the one that mentioned it.
So unless there's another thread that I missed I'd put it down to ddark not reading it properly.

ddark did say you were in the conversation, so could be the one you are thinking of. In that case it would appear ddark did pass on erroneous info to me, but he was so sure about it, hence why I asked :)

It probably that Dave doesn't care, when they are on the ground they are all the same, as they have been...

And yes, specifically mentioned a prone vamp, never a stunned one.

Clarify please: is the ruling that a prone vampire may use HG? Example: to reach a square, a vampire must dodge to the square and falls down without breaking armor. He may then use HG.

Is this what the clarification by Galak means?

No, it means a prone Vampire may use HG without having to stand up (but stays on the floor).

Ah, d'accord.... What would be the advantage in not standing first?

Don't get surfed, don't stand next to a ClawPoMb monster, don't get tentacled, don't get pushed back, block a square - any reason you would normally want to leave a player prone.
