Why have the 2 point characteristic reduction limit?

What is the rationale for not allowing player characteristics to be reduced by more than two points due to injuries?

I have never understood this. If a player continues to accumulate injuries throughout his career, it only makes sense that his ability to play should diminish over time as well.

Pretty much any player taking a -2 to any stat is going to be cut, let alone a -3 or more.

A bob does not care if his ag is -3.

A BOB cannot take -2, let alone -3. This is more about things like having ST3 Treemen and the like.

That's accepted by most players but doesn't answer the question originally asked....

It's probably the same arbitrary reason there's a +2 limit.
The only one that can answer that question is Jervis, as it's a rule from 3rd ed I.e. before community rules involvement, and he doesn't use this forum.
