why? because you might get to the ball before your opponent can? is that called a turnover too? I guess that's not what you mean. How does kick help you get a turnover? (ah finally the question I mean to ask).

There are 2 uses of the word turnover in BB.
One is the turnover mentioned in the rulebook, the ending of a turn due to a failure of an action.
The 2nd relates to BBs American Football heritage and is when the kicking team gets the ball off the receiving team and scores a touchdown.
Kick makes both gathering the ball and forming a cage harder. This makes it more likely you will be able steal the ball and get a turnover (the 2nd one although the first one happening also helps!).
