Have you seen the new Blood Bowl Thrud miniature?
Image
It's looking really sweet! Does anyone have the _new_ official rules for him? I couldn't find it at Fanatic's site

Now talking of Thrud, I'm sure there's those in England that remember Carl Critchlow's work in Back Street Heroes (a Biker Mag), 2000AD (quality comic, Judge Dredd) as well as WD. Anyway, a sample from WD104. Apologies for lack of quality:

Speaking of Thrud, does anyone know if it is possible to get hold of the one-page-comics that GW used to publish in White Dwarf _way_ back? This was long before issue 100 I think. (yes, I _am_ feeling old

Galak turns on his time machine.

Thrud was actually a star player back in 1st edition Blood Bowl.
To see his rules go down to the bottom of my listing of 1st edition teams and star players on my web site:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/La ... 1stEd.html

Okay, now I spent a long time studying 1st edition to create a 4th edition translation of Thrud and here is what I came up with
(I will be very curious how close I got to the new 4E rules for Thrud)

Thrud was 6/6/2/9 Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Thick Skull, Wild Animal, Really Stupid, Mine!

And the Mine! trait was:
A player with this skill is totally focused on getting a touchdown if they get their hands on the ball. A player with this skill who is carrying the football must move in such a way as to be at least no further away from his End Zone. (i.e. every square of movement must be towards his End Zone or a horizontal move towards the sidelines.) The player will also refuse to hand-off, pass, or drop the ball, unless its knocked from his hands.

If you want to see the 4th edition translation explanation from 1st edition, it is at:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/La ... Thrud.html

In 1st edition, Thrud would play (ally) with ANY team.

While Thrud is cool and all, allowng him to ally with any team is gonna be a big problem... then again I have no idea what the official rules will be.

After Thrud's rules are official, I'll need to write up my rules for the Barbarian team that my league created based on the 1st edition Thrud conversion. The logic was that if Thrud loved playing BB wouldn't it be a fun past time for a few over lunking Barbarians. (It also gave us an extra Big Guy player to give to teams like the Halflings.) I'm coaching a Barbarian team right now in my league and so far we are 2-0 (more by luck than skill) and the team plays a little like an Ogre team and a little like a Minotaur (the trick is knowing which little to be using when).

Anyway with 2 poses for the Thrud fig, it would be easy to create a 12 man team.

The Barbarian team rules are at:

Here's the stats(CJ45):

Mv 6, ST 6, Ag 2, Ar 9. Block, Break Tackle, Horns (his helmet), Mighty Blow, Multiple Block. Bone-Head, Thick Skull.

Easily confused: After each touchdown and at the start of the second half roll a D6. 1-3 thrud plays for the other team. (Roll even if Thrud is in the dugout.)
Thruds Fans: Increases the gate by 3D6x1000.

Freebooter, 50,000Gp.

My translation from 1st edition to 4th:
Thrud was 6/6/2/9 Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Thick Skull, Wild Animal, Really Stupid, Mine!

GW's translation:
Mv 6, ST 6, Ag 2, Ar 9. Block, Break Tackle, Horns (his helmet), Mighty Blow, Multiple Block. Bone-Head, Thick Skull, Easily confused

Hey, I got the stats right.
Bonehead with Easily Confused is actually a more true translation of 1st then my translation using Really Stupid and Wild Animal. Anyway, the 1st edition rules would not have backed up the Horns/Multiple Block thing, but and I can't believe I'm saying this about a GW translation. This version of Thrud is very true to BB history. Congrats to Fanatic.
