Double skill for a Hobgoblin

Post by Dr. Von Richten »

So, at long last my Chaos Dwarf have managed do win a match again, and prompty one of my Hobgoblins leveled up and decided to roll a double, and I'm not sure what to give him.
Guard is good, but all my CD's can get it on normals, and same for Mighty Blow. Dodge is also good, but with few other players in the team who have it, it is easily canceled.
Of course, I could ignore the double and give him a normal skill, but that feels kinda wasteful. So what is the best idea?

For reference, the rest of the team:

1: Minotaur with Juggernaut and Break Tackle
2: Bull Centaur with Block, Dodge, Break Tackle and +MA
3: Bull Centaur with Block and Break Tackle
4: Chaos Dwarf with Guard
5: Chaos Dwarf with nothing
6: Chaos Dwarf with Guard
7: Chaos Dwarf with nothing
8: Chaos Dwarf with Guard
9: Chaos Dwarf with Guard and Claw
10: Hobgoblin with Wrestle
11: Hobgoblin with Block
12: Hobgoblin with [Double Skill]
13: Hobgoblin with nothing

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

Dodge.

You don't want Hobs in the thick of the fight and it is a good skill for a ball carrier.

Your other option would be to make him a safety: MB/Block/Tackle though the BCs normally end up in that role.

What if he already has dodge? I have a dodge/sure hands hobgoblin and am tempted to just go with block.

Sorry to jump your topic, Dr.

Side step and hope he survives to get block? Blodging side stepping ball carriers are a pain...

Thanks for the reponses so far! :)

I won't give him Leader because of fluff reasons; a Hobgoblin bossing Chaos Dwarfs around, that's just wrong!

Also, I carry the ball with the Bulls, so Sure Hands isn't high on my list for a Hobgoblin (and if it was, I would sooner give it to the one who already has Block; he's at 15 SPP).

For a safety I prefer Wrestle over Block (except on a Bull), which makes Mighty Blow less useful.

I'm leaning towards Dodge ATM, but a (relatively) moblie Guard is's bad either. Choices, choices ...

Voted dodge, it makes him more mobile on an otherwise quite static team and you have a back up ball carrier if the bulls are tied up, off the pitch or die and the replacements don't have BT yet.

Plus it helps keep him alive to get to 16spp.

Voted dodge, but if its fluff you are interested in, then the only choice is Sneaky Git.

Just because you normally carry with Bulls (so do I) doesn't mean a Hobgob ball carrier isn't useful, so Dodge is a clear winner if you choose that route.

However I have had massive success with Sneaky Git. Next skill Dirty Player. It means you can risk opportunistic fouls much more easily without having to construct your fouling game and pitch positioning around your foul assists. With Chorfs I reckon you should be fouling once a turn, once every other turn at least. SG keeps him on the pitch for longer.

Dodge it is!

Thanks all for the reponses! :D

And now let's see if Nuffle will even let him live long enough to worry about what to give him next ...

Dodge. Hobos are good for running the ball ( even if you prefer Bulls) like Waldorf says.
I can give evidence that guard hobos are shite. Mostly because av7 and probably no block yet is a real clear target. I even had a st4 hobo get guard and even he sucked. Dodge for me is now a no brainer.

Leader if you are a min max player
