NAF article ‘Leaning into the Tilt’

Post by Jip »

The NAF have very kindly published an article I wrote about the impact of tilting on your game, and your opponents’.

Works with tabletop and online play (and pretty much every game system going, I s’pose), interested in people’s thoughts on this one!

Feel free to share anywhere you feel may be of benefit.

I’ve got a couple of other articles on there, if you fancy a read:

Aspiring to improve on mid-table mediocrity, over in the SAWBBL.

Fancy an actual one-dayer? Check out The Coffee Cup.

Looking at attending your first tournament? Have a read of this.

psychotherapy 101; do not out think your opponent you have to out think yourself first!

Just kidding. Nice summary! I know that angry feel when stuff is just not going right. More in board games than Blood Bowl for me. It is helpful to try and do that self inspection to find ways to improve yourself.

Really good stuff Jip, love the picture of you losing your toys at the BUBBA 'Snow Bowl'. Think most people started that day one step off a tilt to begin with and that is just the ones who had to stay home and not deal with the little plastic cubes hating them.

A nice read, well written and good content.

What I have found personally to manage my tilt is role-playing being the coach and I am blaming the players for what the dice come up with.
I use humor to laugh with the players failing and this takes away the sting that you yourself are failing.

Making the correct play is not always going to result in a win.

Sometimes you can make a more risky play because you have a hunch to do something but most of the time just go with rational analysis of the best odds to play and improving the fail state within the boundaries of reasonable actions.

That's what I love about this game: there is still so much more to learn than just being a good Blood Bowl coach it also learns you to better cope with disappointment in life.

What a wholesome hobby we have.
