Today I have to play a match with my dwarf team against an orc team (I still don't know its composition). Norse and other guys have told me some advice about how to play, now I want your opinion on how to put mi little fellows onto the pitch. Those are my ideas:

L: longbeard
S: Slayer
B: Blitzer
R: runner

-----------------------------
. . . .|. L . L .L .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
.LS .|. . . . . . .|. SL .
. . . .|. BR . RB .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

I'm not sure if I have to keep those three Longbeard alone on the scrimmage (now are food for B.Orks) or put all five LB together on the scrim.

I would recommend against stacking the LoS on defence. Orcs have you outmatched for strength so they will simply use the opportunity to take some 2 dice blocks and put your boys on the deck.

One caveat to that - if the Black Orcs lack block and he's low on rerolls, tempting him into 2 dice blocks against guys with block can burn his rerolls quickly and maybe force an error.

Safe tactic tho is to keep 3 guys on the line and keep the rest of the team back slightly and ready to react.

Marcus: is the first match for all two teams, so we have basic skills.

Trambi: Although attacking I'm not sure if it's a good idea to put Slayers so near from the scrimm line. They have very low armour and an result of 10 (it's called blitz in english?) in kick table could ruin them.

Disagree totally on the LOS thing...

As you know I have no blitzers in my starting team, so I put 5 longbeards on the LOS and force him to try and smack me up...

The law of avaerages says he will use his re-rolls to cover his black-orcs asses when they roll POW/Skull and then have none left when his blitzer tries to catch the ball..

I always always always load up the LOS and then start hitting hard. Your AV9 and thick skull is plenty of protection.. block v unskilled thugs like BOs is a great way of cutting Orcs straight down to size..

Trust me, it works. First skill you buy them is guard, then you laugh all the way to the top of the league....

Ancalagon: please play your troll slayers as true  troll slayers furious and don't try to protect them.
In the scrimmage line, they could make some damage with frenzy, block.
In fact for attack, you have to see the defense of your opponent, to adapt your "setup" (not sure of this word).

Wait, wait a moment. Agree with norse about put 5 LB on scrimm but keep in mind that those first matchs are pre-season and doesn't matter winning or loosing, in fact experience is wich is most important. This and trying to maintain alive all players untill have money to replace them. (next buy one or two longbeards and then the ogre).
So this could be the result:

Code:
------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------

. . . .|. L L L LL .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

. B S .|. . . . . . .|. S B .

. . . .|. R . . . R .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

Given they're starting teams then, as I mentioned above, I'd agree with Norse, force them to bring the smack against your guys with block and wait for them to knock themselves down.

Setup you posted above looks ideal.

I played an e-mail game against a longtime Dwarf veteran. I received first and he lined up 5 Longbeards on the line, figuring "they're just girls, nothing will happen."

Ummmm...

Personally, I'd suggest you bunch three of them together on the LOS. Don't let him "pinball" your players. And definitely keep the guys in the wings two squares back, minimum. I've seen more teams burned by Quick Snap...well, it never gets old for me, but it sure gets old for my opponents!

Good luck!

Chet, I'd love to play you dude.. I know Dwarves are bad at many BB things, but no-one has ever played pin-ball with my Longbeards!! Maybe guard and stand-firm help though, huh??

Favourite Longbeard trick:

Put a longbeard with stand firm on the edge of the board.. opponent moves two players over to blitz him into the crowd.. he goes nowhere because he is a tree.. you send in the slayer to blitz them into the crowd

Ah yes, the old ones are the best....
