BB PC Game League

Post by dazlamb »

The is a thread over at http://www.cyanide-studio.com/forumBB/v ... ?f=4&t=799
For creating a league.
This threads aim is to compile an organized list of leagues and tournaments which will be made on the games release. Players such as myself will be looking to join player run leagues to add to the multiplayer experience of Blood Bowl. Those who are planning to run leagues please place your information below so players can easily find which league would suit them the most! I shall then update the thread every few days with the new information.

Here is an example of what information you should provide.

League Name: Name of your League
Number of Teams: Number of teams you aim to have in your league
Race Restriction: Any restrictions (i.e. Dwarf Only)
Game Type: Turn Based or Real Time
Time Zone The preferred time zone fo the league members (GMT etc)
Extra Rules: Blitz/Classic & Extra rules (I.e. turn length)
Recruiting: Are you looking for new players for this league or is it a closed community league
Website: Do you have a website where people could apply/register their interest.
Extra Info: Explain what your aims are, why people should join your league, what benefits there will be and any other

I was thinking it should be something like:

League Name: TalkBloodBowl
Number of Teams: 30
Race Restriction: None
Game Type: Turn Based
Time Zone: International(All time zones welcome)
Extra Rules: Blitz/Classic & Extra rules and 4min rule
Recruiting: Closed League(Of sorts)
Website: http://www.talkbloodbowl.com
Extra Info: A league for fans of the Board Game from talkbloodbowl.com who want to have some online fun.

Don't want to step on anybodies toes does TBB want a league? What restrictions/option would people want?

More teams 30 may be no where near enough for a TBB league

Not to sure how many people would want to join I supose the perpetual leaue format would allow for large numers. Don't want to venture into the 'online leagues section' it is full of Fumbblers :D

Yes, I should think you're a pretty good argument to avoid that section

If you want this to work then you need to have a very clear picture of how the league is going to run and what format it will use. Do you just want to use it as a way of finding casual games or are you after a more structured league? Remember that it cant be both at the same time - perhaps you could have a casual league that feeds teams into a scheduled league but you need to be practical in working out how viable it is for people to find those feeder games.

30 teams is alot of teams, especially for a scheduled league format. Rome was not built in a day.

Here are a few more of the questions you really should have an answer to:
- scheduled or open?
- set deadlines, how regularly are coaches expected to play?
- how flexible are you prepared to be, are there any penalties for not playing a game? (I would advise you not to be very flexible at all)
- timezone, are all your members actually going to be able to play against each other?
- season length and breaks, how long and is there a break between seasons?
- points, how do you win and is the league split into divisions each with their own prize?
- is the league competitive and does it matter? (essentially you need to do a reality check, will the league be automatically won by someone who played it 24/7 or who only played against halfling teams and rookie coaches)

You might not have answers to all of those questions just yet but eventually you do need answers to all of them. If in doubt try looking at a few of the long running leagues on FUMBBL, even if you hate FUMBBL you can be sure that the long running leagues are doing something right :)

Just so you know, number of teams must be divisible by 4. Or that was the case in the beta so we're assuming it's true for the final version.
