How does bouncing work?

Post by Infernarl »

On page 13 under BOUNCING BALLS, the third sentence reads "To find out where the ball bounces to, roll for scatter one more time"

I have been told this means that when a ball is dropped you scatter twice. For example, if a player fails a pick-up what happens is, you roll a scatter centered on the square containing the player, then if the ball enters an empty square you roll a scatter "one more time" to see where the ball ends up. I.E. the only time the ball comes to rest is if it both enters and leaves an empty square. Is this right?

In my example, the player attempting the pick up might end up with the ball if it bounced back at him. (although it would still be a turn over)

P.13 is part of the Throwing rules, nothing to do with pick ups.

A bounce (used on p.8, defined on p.13) shows the ball scatters once (unless the square it scatters to has another player etc.)
p.8 wrote:If the D6 roll is less than the required total, then
the player drops the ball, which will bounce one square. If the
player drops the ball then his team suffers a turnover and their
turn ends immediately.
p.13 wrote:If the ball is dropped or not caught, or the ball bounces to a
square with a Prone or Stunned player, or a player is pushed to
or lands in the ball"s square, or the square where a thrown ball
lands is unoccupied (or is occupied by a Prone or Stunned
player) then it will bounce. This is a technical term for the thing
jumping about all over the place while the players stumble about
trying to grab it! To find out where the ball bounces to, roll for
scatter one more time. If the ball bounces into an occupied
square, then the player in the square must attempt to catch it, as
described above. If the player fails to catch the ball, then it will
bounce again until it is either caught or bounces into an empty
square or off the pitch.
