Hi all!

After recently finding out Games Workshop is no longer selling specialist games like Blood Bowl, I was compelled to jump back into the hobby and purchase the 3rd edition box set on eBay! I played this game and Space Hulk when I was in my early teens and I have fond memories so I didn't want to miss out having another go at it.

Having done some reading around the web, this forum appears to be the main place to discuss all things Blood Bowl, hence my first post!

In addition to picking up the starter set, I've learned about the development of rules since my time away and managed to download a copy of the Living Rulebook 6.0 (Jan 1 2010) - is this the latest/last version of the rules available?

As Games Workshop no longer provide any Blood Bowl information on their website since the recent re-design, are there any other resource files available that are worth downloading?

Howdy,

The official current rules are the CRP, which is what GW used to host. You can download it from the NAF website here: http://www.thenaf.net/blood-bowl/rules/ as well as the "New Teams" pdf, which are official races but not in the CRP.

LRB 6.0 is what the rules should have been (with all the background etc), but for various reasons GW only hosted a hatchet job. Unfortunately there are a few fan-made versions of LRB6 around, along with the "official" version, so I can't be sure whether the one you have is the correct version or not, as some of the fan ones have small errors.

If you're interested in tournament play look through the relevant tournament sub-forum and investigate the NAF, and if you're looking for a league check out the league section. Whereabouts in the UK are you?

Thanks for the link Darkson. The version of LRB 6 I picked up can be found here: http://d01.megashares.com/dl/BWKzaJf/LRB6_Handbook.pdf (found it on this forum).

I'm based in south Manchester.

Browse around thenaf.net, hopefully it has everything you need! If not I'd be interested in what was missing :)

Thanks lunchmoney. I've checked the version you linked to and its exactly the same as the one I downloaded from the link I mentioned earlier.

Apart from the CRP and LRB 6, is there anything else I should get hold of to get started?

For an alternative, "underground", sans elitist/orwellian/collabritist point of view, hang out at the Necros vs the World of Blood Bowl thread and/or pm me for some realpolitik over a warm Bloodweiser :orc:

Enjoy the game; kill the living, raise their dead; and curse nuffle!

Well, to need teams, of course! What you get in the box is half a Human team and half an Orc team, so at the very least you need to get mini's to fill up those teams. in this case (and only in this case) I suggest using appropriate WFB mini's (weapons snipped of), because they'll be in the same style, more or less, as what you already have. Or just ignore the 'teams' in the box and get some quality miniatures from the following sites:

http://www.comixininos.com/: Spanish seller, sells many different brands
http://www.impactminiatures.com/: American/British manufarcuter/seller, also sells many different brands, including it's own.
http://www.gaspez-arts.com/: Italian manufacturer, sells it's own brand and some others
http://www.greebo.it/mainsite/jupgrade/: Italian manufacturer, sells it's own brand

Between those four websites, you can find pretty much any type of 'fantasy football' miniature in print. And otherwise, there's always ebay

You also need a group of friends who are willing to commit to some form of regular play, as the game really shines in league format. Unless you happen to be located close to an already existing league, of course.

Oh an please ignore Digger Goreman. He is convinced that more than half the teams are overpowered and only the Necromantic team is a proper team, and he's utterly irrational about it (welcome to the internet), so don't even try to argue with him.

If you're Manchester have a search for Waterbowl. Not sure how active they are as a league but more than a few of them attend tournaments.

Thanks for the pointers. My next question was going to be about teams!

I've already got my eye on the Willy miniatures Chaos team and Vampire team - these look great compared to a lot I have seen on other seller's websites. I had a quick read of the races guide on the BBTactics website and there appear to be a very limited number that are recommended for beginners.

What do you think about starting out with Chaos and Vampire teams - are these especially difficult to get to grips with? If so, should I start with orcs?

Thanks vR, love ya too....

Rinzen, check with Impact Miniatures/Tom Anders (aka Galak Starscraper) and see if the kickstarter is still on.... You can get a crazy amount of teams for relatively little cash and I think they operate out of England also....

If you remember "The Emporer's Clothes", I'm the little kid.... Drives the establishment and power gamers crazy.... :orc:

@Digger Goreman: thanks for the link to the kickstarter campaign, it's a great what they are doing, but I'm not so mad about the minis on offer compared to the Willy miniatures ones I mentioned earlier.

@sann0638: thanks, I'll check the forum out when I'm up and running and have a team to play.

@glowworm: whilst it's tempting, as a newbie I think I'll steer clear of the stunties for now! ;)

Any opinions on my earlier query about best races to start with?

Impact Kickstarter still running, but unfortunately no longer shipped from the UK. Check Tritex games, as he has a wide range of BB figures including Impact.

Orcs are a good team to learn with - much better than Chaos or Vamps. ;)
