WCQ: Aftershock! NAF 1 day 8/29 Los Angeles Battle Bunker

Post by daloonieshaman »

After many delays on my part, it's time to announce:

WCQ: Aftershock!

Where: GW Battle Bunker, Westminster, CA
Date: Saturday, August 29
Time: Registration starts @ noon, Game 1 @ 1pm sharp!
What: One-day, three-game NAF tournament
Cost: $10

It's time to put those NAF memberships to use once more as we gather for a one-day tournament to tide us over until the 2010 West Coast Quake. There won't be any goodies or giveaways this time, as we're preparing all of that for the next West Coast Quake. So instead, we'll have plain ol' cash prizes. All tournament participants will pay a $10 entry fee, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will take home a 50% / 30% / 20% split of the total of all the entry fees minus a $10 consolation prize. This Consolation Prize will go to the "Best of the Worst" -- the team with the worst winning percentage but the most tournament points.

The rules will essentially follow the 2010 West Coast Quake rules that can be found at http://www.wcquake.com/rules.htm, with a few exceptions:

-- Schedule: See below for the day's schedule.
-- What To Bring and Tournament Rules: Bring everything you would normally bring to play a game of Blood Bowl. The LRB5+/LRB6 rules (the rulebook currently in use for FABBL league games) will be the rulebook used for the tournament (including the standard weather/kickoff tables).
-- Additional Skills and Inducements: Teams will allocate six skills to six different players: 5 normal rolls and one doubles roll. Inducements will be as presented.
-- Illegal Procedure: As noted, Illegal Procedure should not be called for turn counter violations, in lieu of a friendly reminder. Four-minute clocks should be used, just to ensure that games adhere to the scheduled timeframes. However, clocks can and should be paused as necessary for rule questions or if the non-active coach needs to make an extended decision/action (more than a couple seconds or one die roll) -- ie, lengthy Sidestep decision, Pass Block, etc. Also, we will allow a single player whose action had been declared prior to the expiration of the four minutes to complete the declared action.
-- Dice: Each coach should bring all the dice he'll need to play the game, but the coaches should agree pre-game as to whose dice will be the one set used by both coaches.
-- Scoring: As presented.
-- Tournament Matchups: All three rounds will be Swiss pairings, with no repeat opponents and no top table/grudge match round.
-- Painting and Sportsmanship: Painted teams are highly encouraged, but if a team's not painted but race/positions are still obvious), then we won't keep any willing participant from paying to play for this reason alone. Sportsmanship should really go without saying. Prizes will not be given out in these areas, however.
-- NAF: NAF membership is not required for tournament play. WCQ: Aftershock will be a NAF-sanctioned tournament, however, and matches between two active NAF members will count for NAF ranking points. Sign up for (or renew) your NAF membership at http://www.thenaf.net.
-- Awards: Prizes will be limited to the 1st/2nd/3rd finishers and the consolation prize.

The day's schedule will be:
Noon - 1pm: Registration
1pm - 3:15pm: Game 1
3:15pm - 3:30pm: Break
3:30pm - 5:45pm: Game 2
5:45pm - 6:45pm: Dinner
6:45pm - 9pm: Game 3
9pm - ???: Final tallies and prize distribution

I think I've covered just about everything, but let me know if there are any questions. Please post if you're coming, as it would be great to get a ballpark figure of attendance going in.
