Golden Gauntlet UK - *NEW* Tournament Series

Post by Pipey »

Introducing...

Image

A brand new tournament series for the whole of UK Blood Bowl. Golden Gauntlet UK is here!

See NAF information about Tournament Series here.

All UK NAF coaches are eligible to score GGUK points at every UK NAF tournament which qualifies to award a NAF trophy as per NAF guidelines. In addition, a set of ten established and well attended tournaments will award double points in all categories. These ten tournaments are the Classics.

Nine of the Classics are a fixed set of well established and well attended events, distributed around the UK to represent the different tournament playing regions. These are divided as follows: three southern English, three northern English, one English midlands, one Welsh and one Scottish. In addition, the 10th Classic is a Wildcard, typically a smaller tournament chosen each year by the NAF Tournament Coordinators group.

The GGUK Classics are as follows...

Southern England:
-Albion Coast Cup
-Gert Bowl
-Thrudball

English Midlands:
-The NAF Championship

Northern England:
-Monkeybowl
-UK Team Challenge
-Waterbowl

Scotland:
-Burger Bowl

Wales:
-Welsh Open

2015/16 Wildcard:
-Geordie Bowl

Points scoring is cumulative; there is no limit to the number of tournaments coaches can score in. The intention is to award pure gaming results but also other aspects of the wider hobby which are traditionally recognised at tournaments, as follows:

-1st place 25 pts
-2nd place 18 pts
-3rd place 15 pts
-4th place 12 pts
-5th place 10 pts
-6th place 8 pts
-7th place 6 pts
-8th place 4 pts
-9th place 2 pts
-10th place 1 pt
-Best Painted Team or Stunty Cup win 10 pts
-Most Touchdowns or Most Casualties win 5 pts
-All scores in all categories at a Classic tournament are doubled

A few footnotes on the additional trophies:

-I’d like to recommend that all tournaments recognise Best Painted, Stunty Cup, Most Touchdowns and Most Casualties in some way. No prize, trophy or certificate is necessary. Even if it’s no more than lip service here on TFF.

-Coaches who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd but were also awarded Most Touchdowns and/or Most Casualties will only score GGUK points for their tournament placing.

-A coach who wins Best Painted Team at separate tournaments with the same team can only score once e.g. the highest score of the two as appropriate

GGUK will start after NAFC 2015 with Cake Bowl V set to be the first scoring tournament on the first weekend of June.

The highest points scorer at the end of the year will be awarded this Golden Gauntlet trophy and a suitable prize (which I hope to procure by then!) at NAFC 2016.

Here’s hoping people will find this fun!

Cheers
Brendan

Nice initiative (no love for the Midlands or East Anglia I see )

So I'd be better off finishing 4th and killing all mens, than finishing 3rd. Doesn't seem quite right.

Also: if I was to finish 3rd with a stunty team, I'd get as many as the overall winner? Awesome :P

Sounds like an interesting and obviously well thought out idea. Let's hope it adds to the tourney scene :)

Would have liked perhaps a Golden Mitten for stunty teams instead of 10pts lumped in with the main event, but I'll just have to make do with those each time :P

@Sandwich

There's love for all tournaments ( they can all count :) ) but I tried to pick a range that had been very well attended e.g. 30-40+ and had a long history e.g. 5/6 years +.

Another Midland tourney as next year's Wildcard? The NTCs will decide I guess...

Idea behind not allowing placed coaches to pick up most TD / most cas was to prevent people getting huge scores from one good weekend - often the lead player does score the most TDs for example. 4th place and most TDs better than 3rd? A strange quirk I guess. I'll think on it...

@Sann

Yep Stunty and placings are cumulative. So win a tournament with stunties and collect 35 pts.

Fair enough I guess.

Another related question... a lot of tournaments don't end up giving trophies to the Most Cas/TDs but it ends up being second or third best, so the trophies are shared out. So e.g. the winner scores 15 TDs but 4th place would get the Most TDs award with 13, so they both get a prize. How are the points going to work here? In this case, does the 4th place person get the +5pts for the "most" TDs or not?

Its the day(ish) before NAFC and I'm winding down work-wise, so forgive all the questions ;-)

I was going to leave that decision at the TO's discretion, it's not up to me in any case. So should he wish to share the awards in that way, then fine.

All ideas and suggestions on this welcome before it 'goes live'.

Given the spirit of Crumb, would it be wrong to suggest they substitue the 'Best Newcomer' for the best painted?
Just putting it out there...

Just award "Best Painted" to everyone, and therefore give no points. That's what I'd do (if I was running ARBBL next year).
