Darkness Fouls... @ The NoVA Open
Friday (Sept. 1st) & Saturday (Sept. 2nd)
Check-in: 8:30pm
Game 1(&3) : 8:45pm-11:00pm

Still knocking heads into the wee hours at the NoVA Open we're better than ever.
NUFL is restless and is looking to get down and dirty. This tournament is going to start living up to it's name.
The Inducements table looks a little different this year and may have a gift or two for ...just the right kind of player.

This tournament begins at night for anyone whom just couldn't make it to the Day-Long Tournament. The games are also split between two nights so that each

coach can claim some measure of beauty rest between bouts of dice rolling and convention frolicking.
If you spent the day fighting for(or against) The Emperor then we're here for you. Cut loose and let your dark side show.
Step on up and see if you can dominate BOTH Tournaments at the NoVA Open.

These events will be using the same rules and stipulations.
These are Four game, Swiss pairing tournaments using a special themed Kickoff Table(detailed in the 'primer' at novaopen.com)
Injuries and casualties do not carry over: Each game will begin with your roster in exactly the same state you created it.

ALL 24 NAF approved teams are ready, willing and able to kick all the butt they can.
Teams can be built using up to 1,100,000gp.
Team Generation and the Inducements Tables/choices between the events DO differ this year. Please read the Primer document carefully.

Event Price: $20
The NoVA Open Event pricing still includes a -$3 discount to every one of your registered events beyond the first.
Sign up for both Tournaments(you know you want to...) and you'll save 15%!

Full Tournament Details(primer) and Registration now open! at http://www.novaopen.com

It's a brand new day Coaches!

This year we're seeing a resurgence of everything!
There's a new kit from GW with shiny new rulebooks and a double-sided play field.
There are even new plastic models for some classic teams which all look absolutely fantastic even without the paint. This has also sparked a new crop of coaches as well as re-kindled some long dormant ones.

Every year we try to improve things for the tournaments and this year is looking to be a good one for it. If your primary goal is to bruise your ribs laughing look no further.

We take in the suggestions and ideas from all the coaches that have come to compete in years' past and things just get better and better because of it.
We're always looking to spice things a bit and up the Fun factor.

There'll be tweaks to the Kickoff Tables and Inducements lists for both events to bring them more in line with their themes.
Team creation will be getting a better, somewhat more detailed structure and special rules for each event will also be getting a healthy dose of poking and tugging also to give the two tournaments more flavor and distinctness.

Updates will flow as all these things solidify and take their final forms. We're looking forward to another year better than the last.

New Releases and Clarifications

The GW releases of Death Zone 1 & 2 have made a few tweaks to the BloodBowl game as we know it.
There have been a couple roster tweaks but not many. The Chaos Pact and the Goblin teams got new positions made available to them.
There's been updates and additions to the Star Player list but noone's being left out.

All this has been expertly documented by our friends at The NAF and can be found here:
https://www.thenaf.net/2017/05/naf-and-death-zone-2/
https://www.thenaf.net/wp-content/uploa ... e-v1-3.pdf

...and as a NAF Sanctioned Tournament we'll be following these updates closely.
The Primer has been updated to reflect this updated document also.

There is one line in the Primer for this year's Tournaments for which we've received a couple questions.
In the "Slaughterday! Bonus Skill assignment" section there is a statement in bold reading: " ** No Extraordinary skills nor Mutations upgrades can be taken"
This applies to every position on every team regardless of wether that team/player could normally obtain them(doubles, etc.).

...a sly coach might also notice this statement is suspiciously absent from the Darkness Fouls roster building section...

and one final note:
The Inducements listed in the Primer remain the only ones allowed for the tournaments.
...but if you're brave enough to talk one of the friendly organizers into a side game... well then all bets are off...

New fields needing fresh meat and bones! Avoid the steaming divots.

But first a correction! In our previous posting there was mention that Extraordinary and Mutation skills could not be taken at all.

A little bit of crow is to be nibbled since we've come to learn that if a team/player may normally take Mutations as they MAY STILL DO SO(Chaos Pact, Nurgle, Underworld, Skaven, Chaos) as noted under the rules for Team Building in the Primer.
Please forgive us for the confusion.

On to the good news!
Every year it seems like we get more players than the last and every year we wonder if we'll run out of pitches to play on!
This year GW has a whole new line of fancy new pitches to play on featuring a 34mm square for players with the new extra large bases to fit into.

We're pleased to announce an all new set of game boards added to the pile this year.
These new pitches come with delux integrated Dugouts for both teams with all the expected luxuries.
There are clear and easily reached Turn counters and yes even a single set of templates for both coaches to use.
No more of that "but it's pointed THAT way on my dugout" chatter.
...but wait! There's more!
Each newly annointed pitch is also fully loaded with passing range-finder charts in easy-to-see areas.

All this awaits every lucky coach that stands up and joins the lists this year in either Bloodbowl tournament!
Don't be the last one on your block! Act now! Time is limited!

This year was epic and enormous and full of Firsts. The turnout was phenomenal and the coaches were fantastic.
The coaches make running this more fun than a barrel of squigs.

The most exciting one is the new Record high number of coaches competing.
There weren't just more. There were a LOT more.
Slaughterday! saw Twenty-nine coaches slugging it out and Darkness Fouls... had Twenty-six buring the midnight oil.

the Results!

Finally a word regarding the future.
This year brought a large and wonderful mix of coaches as well as the Administration overhead that comes with it.
I was in over my head and by Saturday night it showed.
I extend to all of you my most sincere apologies and thanks for being the most awesome group of gamers I've had the privilege of playing with.
There will be changes coming next year both to improve your fun-factor and to ensure things run much more smoothly.
