Hi all

I have booked a curry for 7pm on the Saturday of Monkeybowl.

It's Mumbai restaurant in Victoria Road. That's the same building as the Best Western grand hotel if that helps anyone. Moreover it's a very short stagger from the venue.

We're going to pre order so I'll be sharing a menu and would like folks to let me know their choice by the Wednesday before the tourney (1st April).

One of the best restaurants in the town and cracking value. Should be good!

Hello again

In other news...

There is no plan to cancel Monkeybowl due to the coronavirus outbreak. Our venue is continuing to hold other similar sized events and are happy for us to go ahead.

We will be asking people to wash or sanitise their hands regularly throughout the tournament e.g. when arriving or leaving the building and between games. I would also ask anyone who has flu-like symptoms to not attend the event.

With sensible measures we shouldn't have a problem.

Masonic handshakes might be another matter though that's beyond my remit

With the new government advice to avoid travel and social contact which is not essential/necessary, sadly Monkeybowl will have to be postponed.

I'm hopeful we can reschedule it for a date later in the year. It's of course very hard to say when that might be right now. All we can do is follow the advice as it's issued.

A postponement may mean that those who had paid for entry cannot attend the new date. It may be possible to refund people in this position depending on a bit of a financial reevaluation at the time.

One factor is a metal token gift in production in China which has been subject to delay, something I've been aware of for some weeks since early February. The factory was closed due to coronavirus though production did pick up slowly eventually. I expected the tokens might not arrive in time for April 4th in any case. Every paid entrant will certainly receive their gift, when it arrives, which I will find a way to get to you even if you can't make (any) new date.

Please share this amongst your groups and leagues in case I don't manage to reach everyone.

I'm running an informal monkeybowl tournament on fumbbl

More or less as follows:

4 games, 1 a week over 4 weeks, starting early April

Random R1 then Swiss draw

32 player cap, first dibs to signed up Monkeybowl XV entrants

Just one race so no doubletake rule

Otherwise all roster building and scoring is as Monkeybowl including the tier score tiebreaker

Not a NAF official online tournament for rankings etc

If games aren't played for any reason then a bye or no result would be registered as appropriate

All fairly casual, something to fill free time created by our friend coronavirus. Maybe even practice for when we can reschedule the real thing.

I should even be able to muster a modest prize of some kind for the winner!

16 players took part in what was a fun diversion. Thanks to everyone who joined in.

Provisionally looking at the last weekend of July 30/31 2022 though that is to be confirmed

The move to summer is due to UKTC moving to the easter university break at York University

For those who paid for entry - if you are unable to attend the new date I will of course offer a refund on your ticket
