Foul Bowl 4, September 12th, 2020, Swindon

What is it?: It is a NAF-sanctioned, 4 game, one-day tournament, with a random first round draw, followed by Swiss pairings for the remaining three rounds. As the name suggests, there is a definite leaning towards the often forgotten art of the floor blitz, a.k.a fouling. Speaking to Glyn, the manager at Firestorm, he’s happy for us to have the whole two floors of playing space (was just the first floor, last year), giving plenty of safe space for up to twenty attendees. There would be no communal area, but there wasn’t one last year and people seemed to do fine.

When is it?: Saturday September 12th, 2020.

Where is it?: Firestorm Games, 121 Victoria Road, Swindon, SN1 3BD.

How much is it?: £15 for NAF members, and £20 for non-NAF members (including the £5 sign up cost when processed by a NAF representative). Please be aware that local parking isn't NCP levels of eye-watering, but is unfortunately public car parking only. I can collect folk from the train station if you arrive at similar times. Alternatively, share cars and save the planet.

Why is it?: FoulBowl was the ingenious invention of infamous Blood Bowl coach FrogBoy. After FoulBowl 2, he disappeared into the distance, pockets bulging with loot and treasure, never to be seen again. However, persistent pestering and bribery (with the occasional threat of physical harm and kidnapping) from Goblin players, coaches and fans across the land prompted negotiations between myself and Señor Frog to begin. We had the reboot, Foul Bowl 3, last year which sold out pretty quickly and went really well.

tl;dr I missed FoulBowl, messaged FrogBoy asking if he’d run it again, got told no, but was given his full blessing to resurrect the format myself.

Payments should be made via Paypal (friends and family) to haribo_21@hotmail.com. Please include the tournament name, your NAF name, NAF number and actual name. There will be no refunds for cancellations within two weeks of the tournament date.

Due to social distancing measures we are limiting to twenty spots, at the moment. As soon as we hit twenty paid up names (marked in bold), it’ll just be paid reserve spots up for grabs. We will not expand beyond twenty players; I'd rather run a safe tournament than a cattle drive.

Note: In order to facilitate four games in one day there will be no allocated ‘lunch break’. If you are not bringing lunch with you, there are several fast food outlets, coffee shops etc. within walking distance of the store, but to keep the tournament flowing, 15 minutes between rounds is all that will be given. At the time of writing, facial coverings are required in all shops here in England, which would include Firestorm. COVID-19 guidance will be followed, whatever is is at the time.

Any questions, please ask. Rulespack is below. Feel free to private message if you're worried about any genius roster ideas being stolen by your equally Foul-minded opponents!

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.
Bribe level: good coffee.

I'm in, but I suspect my NAF membership would need renewing. How would I sort that out?

A NAF rep will be in attendance. Hopefully with the 2020 dice (waiting on post).

Couple of updates, based on questions I've had:

Underworld Denizens, Old World Alliance and Snotlings
Having been asked by several of you, the 'revised' Underworld Denizens, Old World Alliance and Snotlings will not be playable.

Any Underworld Alliance rosters should use the pre-July 2020 positionals (the one with two Skaven Blitzers and no Gutter Runners).

Rosters
As with last year, I’d like all rosters in by September 1st to give Sann and myself the chance to check them before the day, just to allow us a prompt start once everyone has landed. Please send them to haribo_21@hotmail.com and sann0638@hotmail.com, including your NAF name.

These won’t be shared anywhere before the tournament (though we can share them afterwards, if people are interested).

I can’t incentivise people to get them in on time, all I can do is guilt-trip that failure to get them in may mean a delay to the start of the day, and have a knock-on effect for subsequent games. This is even more important given the need to be as safe as we can on the day.

Stunty and Secret Weapon

Same as Foul Bowl 3. Going by the CRP definition of Stunty ("Stunties that are armed with a Secret Weapon are not allowed to ignore enemy tackle zones..."), I've ruled that removing Secret Weapon means a player is still armed with the Secret Weapon (as he retains the Chainsaw/Ball & Chain/Bombadier etc. [which is the weapon] skill), so would still be affected by tacklezones (if he has Stunty) - but not by being sent off at the end of a drive.

Sponsorships

ZerosGiven (him off of the recent Fantasy Football Team Tokens: Humans indiegogo campaign) is very kindly providing prize support again this year for most fouls, awarded to the coach who fouled the most (duh).

This is for total fouls committed, not just successful ones!

Total to beat from last year... forty!

In addition to this, Little Git Painting, a fantastic commission service based here in Swindon, will be sponsoring another prize at the event, with more info to come on the day.
