Hi all

Monkeybowl is back with a new venue in Durham city centre!

We have moved away from Hartlepool as our traditional venue was no longer available.

Tournament details in sum:
-A large private hall with excellent facilities
-Bar and cafe on site
-Price is £25 per person to a new PayPal address of monkeybowlbb@gmail.com
-Capacity is 56 players
-Players use one roster in all 6 games (rather than two as in recent editions)

Our new premium venue in central Durham:
Image

-EDIT Jan 1st 2022: See attached pdf with rules for roster building and skills now included
-EDIT July 2022: We'll be using the new 2022 norse list superseding Teams of Legend

I have also booked a curry for the Saturday night:
8pm
Alishaan restaurant
North Road, Durham
DH1 4SF

We have gone for a simple set menu option as follows:

-Popadoms and pickles

Choice of the following:
-Chicken tikka masala
-Chicken tikka jalfrezi
-Lamb bhuna
-Vegetable bhuna

-Pilau rice
-Naan bread of your choice (to share between two)

The cost is £18 per person. If you want to come please send me a £10 deposit to monkeybowlbb@gmail.com

Pease pay no later than Tuesday 19th July to secure your place. See paid curry deposit list below.

You don't need to choose what you want now, that can be done on the day.

If you have any specific dietary requirements get in touch and we can hopefully sort something with the restaurant.

Note: the veg curry and pilau rice is vegan, all naan breads have dairy products in them.

Ah yes that's the other thing to draw attention to - there's no Watermonkey discount. We kind of felt that with rising general costs for both events it was a little redundant. Apologies if you were banking on it :)

The partnership and joint award is very much ongoing however!

Reviewing the Monkeybowl rules for 2022.

2021 MBLB rules for rosters and skills:
Image

Suggested changes:
  • No Star Players for any Tier.
  • Move Underworld up to Tier 2 with human, black orc etc.
  • Move Vampire up to Tier 3.
  • Allow skill stacking (2 max per player) for Tier 4 only.
  • The same additional skill or stat increase may be picked a maximum of three times per team.
  • Sneaky git to move up to 20k skill Group.
  • Any new teams (or skills) to be Tiered/Grouped as they are released
Any feedback on the above very much welcomed!

Looks good. Sneaky Git for sure. Underworld could even be Tier 1 just to be safe.

Had some other feedback suggesting Underworld should be Tier 0... got stung the other weekend I think ;)

Sneaky Git apparently a premium pick these days too. 40,000?

It genuinely did cross my mind to suggest this. It creates such a negative play style that it might be better to err on the side of caution? I dunno.

Any thoughts on stars vs. no stars in general?

Dare say this discussion may be happening elsewhere on facebook and so forth. I am so out of touch ;)

Seems to me that no-star vs. star tournaments are a real dichotomy, two different games really. No-star to me has more nuance, balance and variety and may shine a light on some of the more subtle changes to BB2020 mechanics. Star-bowl however seems a race to put the most powerful killer star on the pitch; or to counter it somehow, probably with a star of your own. Results seem very dice dependent, focused on how one or two players perform. Less nuance and balance.

This is why I would err on the side of excluding altogether. I would rather play the nuanced version.

The other consideration is whether stars should be allowed but "taxed" ie with a cost i.e. depleted skill pot etc. Did consider this but though it was more honest to just remove them.
