TOURNAMENT NOW SPONSORED BY SJE MINIATURES

This Blood Bowl Tournament is part of a wider Annual Games weekend (called Gauntlet), being hosted by Deeside Defenders Gaming Club.

The Rules Pack:

Gauntlet Throw Down II – 03rd July 2022

Gauntlet Throw Down II is the 2nd NAF approved Tournament hosted by Deeside Defenders, and the 1st to be held at our new home at the Daniel Owen Centre situated in the town of Mold, North Wales. A 3 game, resurrection tournament using the Swiss system, with a capacity for 24 coaches.

The basic entry fee for NAF members is £12 and an optional £3 for Lunch which will be a buffet, provided by our on site café. You will need to be an NAF member to enter as this is an NAF sanctioned event. Unfortunately we currently don't have a NAF Rep attending the tournament, so new NAF members or Renewals will have to join the NAF via the NAF website.

Entry and payment cut off for the tournament is midnight on Monday 27th June. NOW EXTENDED TO FRIDAY THE 01st JULY.

Payments for entry should be sent by PayPal to;

DeesideDefenderstournaments@gmail.com

(please make sure this is using the friends and family option)

Add your name, coach name and NAF number in the additional comments section, as well as the best email address to contact you at.

All team sheets will be checked in advance to save time on the day. Sheets must be submitted at DeesideDefenderstournaments@gmail.com no later than midnight on Monday 27th June. If you have any questions or would like a PDF copy of this information, please use the above email address.

Schedule

This is a 3 game event with a tight, action-packed schedule (please arrive promptly as lateness may mean missing the first round).

09:00 - 09:30 - Registration
09:30 - 12:00 - Round 1
12:00 - 12.30 - Break (Lunch)
12:30 - 15:00 - Round 2
15:00 - 15:15 - Break
15:15 - 17:45 - Round 3
17:45 - 18:00 - Awards

We will hopefully have a full selection of players on the day, in the event of an uneven number though, it is possible that one player each round may receive a bye. Obviously we will do everything possible to avoid this.

Scoring

Scoring will be as follows:

Win - 3 points
Draw - 1 points
Loss - 0 points

Tie-breakers:

Coaches on the same points score will be separated as follows:

1/. Net TDs + Net Casualties
2/. Net Touchdowns
3/. Net Casualties
4/. Touchdowns Scored
5/. Casualties Inflicted
6/. Strength of Schedule
7/. Coin toss

The Stunty Cup

If we have 2 or more Stunty (Tier 5) teams competing at this Event, we will be running the Stunty cup, which will be awarded to the highest placed Stunty team.

Time keeping

The timetable is based on 2 hour 30 minutes per match which equates to just over 4 minutes per turn for 32 turns (i.e. 8 turns per player per half). No overtime is played. It is up to both coaches to ensure that games are completed within the allocated time. The Tournament Organisers have the right to end matches as they stand if the matches are not finished within the allocated time.
Any coach found to be deliberately stalling for time to run-out a match can be penalised with a points deduction at the discretion of the Tournament Organisers.

Rule Queries

If at any stage you are faced with a situation that can’t be solved between the two coaches and by reference to this Infopack, speak to a Tournament Organiser (TO). The TO’s decision is final.

Team Building

All coaches have 1.2 million gold pieces to build your team, plus a tier-based skill package to spend on improving their team. You must have a minimum of 11 players on your roster before spend anything on inducements. They may also use this money for rerolls, coaches, cheerleaders and dedicated fans.

The team tiers are as follows:

Tier 1

Amazon,
Dark Elves,
Norse,
Shambling Undead,
Skaven,
Underworld Denizens,
Wood Elves

Tier 2

Black Orcs,
Chaos Dwarf,
Dwarf,
Humans,
Lizardmen,
Necromantic Horror,
Orcs

Tier 3

Chaos Chosen,
Khorne,
Elven Union,
High Elves,
Imperial nobility,
OWA,
Tomb Kings

Tier 4

Chaos Renegades,
Nurgle,
Slann,
Vampire

Tier 5

Goblins,
Halflings,
Ogres,

Skill Package

All coaches will be allocated tier-based SPPs to spend on skills for their players. These can be used for primary and secondary skills, no skill stacking or random skills allowed. Tier 5 teams can have a single stat increase which is also non-Stackable. Stat increases have to conform to the stat rules stated in the 2020 Rulebook.

Tier 1: 30 SPPs
Tier 2: 36 SPPs
Tier 3: 42 SPPs
Tier 4: 48 SPPs
Tier 5: 60 SPPs

Skill cost

Single skill = 6 SPPs
Double skill = 12 SPPs

Stat increases

+1 AV = 6 SPPs
+1 MA = 6 SPPs
+1 PA = 6 SPPs
+1 AG = 18 SPPs
+1 ST = 24 SPPs

Inducements

All Inducements from the BB2020 rule book, Death Zone, 2021 Almanac and the spike magazines are allowed, apart from special play cards, mercenaries and Giants.

Star players

Tiers 1 & 2 may hire 1 star player, Tiers 3 to 5 may hire up to 2 star players. Due to recent performances, both Morg ‘n’ Thorg and Hakflem Skuttlespike are currently under investigation for illegal doping and are currently undergoing “random” drug screenings, so will not be available for this Event.

If 2 coaches hire the same star player, both players can still use them.

Prizes & Gifts

The tournament is now sponsored by SJE miniatures, who will be providing prize support.

Everyone will be receiving a welcome gift & we will be running spot prizes (first person to roll a pair of double skulls for example)

There will be awards for the following:

Winner
Runner Up
Most Casualties
Most Touchdowns
Stunty Cup
Wooden Spoon

What to Bring with You

Team Rosters: 2 copies of your roster, printed (on paper) so you team can be checked at Registration and your opponent can refer to your roster, if required.

Models: Teams should be painted to a “decent” 3 colour minimum standard, based and clearly numbered (preference is for the numbers to be on the front and back of the base but not compulsory).

Unpainted teams may be cursed by Nuffle, for not paying him due honour and respect.

ANY COACH WHO TURNS UP WITH AN UNPAINTED TEAM, WHICH DOESN’T MEET THE “DECENT" 3 COLOUR MINIMUM STANDARD, WILL GIVE YOUR OPPONENT A FREE ROLL ON THE NUFFLE TABLE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME AT THE PRAYERS TO NUFFLE STAGE.

Teams are also required to be clear representations of the races they purport to be (not necessarily GW) with clear differences between positionals. Skill rings or bands should be used to show additional skills and these can be quickly explained to your opponent during setup.

Positionals should be recognisable and representative. If you are unsure, please check in advance with the Tournament Organisers.

Dice: Blocking dice x 3, D6 x 2, D8 x 1 & a D16 x 1.

If you are using non GW or NAF dice and they are difficult to read or the symbols on the dice are less than obvious at portraying what results they are supposed to be representing, you will need to bring a standard set with you as well.

Also, you must be prepared to share your dice with your opponent, if asked.

This is a requirement of entry, payment indicates agreement.

Pitches etc. A pitch, throw in template, scatter template, range ruler and dugouts. The venue will have plenty of pitches available if you don’t have one.

Venue

The Tournament is being run by The Deeside Defender’s Gaming club, which is situated in the Daniel Owen Centre.

Address:

Daniel Owen Centre,
Earl Rd,
Mold,
Flintshire,
CH7 1AP

The Venue Is a 10 minute Drive from the North Wales Expressway (A55)

Hi Tony,

I’ll confirm this coming week, but hopefully there will be a new face coming along (while I sit there, rocking in my chair unable to say anything 😂)

Hi Podfrey,

That would be great if you and Pod Jnr can make it (I'm sure you'll be fine advising on the sidelines at our place 🤬📣). I'll reserve you a spot.

Payment sent

I’ve entered as me (which I think is the fair thing to do), and I’m sure all opponents will be delighted that some/all* decisions will be made by Maya instead of me!

Thanks Geoff, I think you had the right balance at Acmebowl, plus Maya will have a bit more time to play in this tournament.

Cheers Tony
