How to best compete under Chaos Cup / BB Tourney Structure

Post by Melifaxis »

I'm not a fan of Star Players in tournaments, but I have to play by the rules. I'm also not a fan of the idea of spending $500+ to go to a tournament and not have any shot at winning.

So, as I have never been to a tournament before and many of you have, what are my competitive options?

Thanks,
Rob

Go and have fun - don't concentrate too much on winning.

Can you summarise the rules? Is this a Tr100, Stars cost double their value over 100k?

Basically what team do you play best? That's easier that trying to give general tourney advice.

I'm too competitive to not concentrate on winning 8)

TR100
1 skill (no traits) after each match never more than 1 skill on each player
5 rounds / team resets after each round
Stars are at regular price but cant be given new skills (if opponent also has star neither of you gets him for that match)
Wizards 150k for whole tournament

I play Chaos Dwarves pretty well (and most often), I'm undefeated with Lizardmen (but only a few games under my belt), but I've played most teams over the last ten years or so. Halflings and goblins are out of the picture though as I don't want to be a whipping post.

Chaos Cup is just one star, right? Take Htark and the CDs.

Yes, just one star - sorry about that.

Hthark and CD's may be my best shot, but it feels so generic.

CDs seem to do well in tournaments.

Take Hthark, both BCs and whatever else you want. Most teams will struggle against it. I wouldn't bother with the troll, but IIRC both finalists at Rendez Vous had trolls (all CD final).

Take Dirty Player as one of your early skills to help remove unwanted stars and Piling On Big Guys.

Excellent, thanks for the advice guys.

CD is option 1 at this point, but I'm tempted by lizards too (especially since I just bought a saurus regiment to convert).
