Online playing tools ?!

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

Online playing tools ?!

Post by rale »

I have been looking for good program to run online bloodbowl tournament, but i haven't yet found a good tool for realtime playing. There is that good PlayByEmail thing, but i am looking for realtime one.

Any ideas?

Netbowl looks pretty good, but there is no version of it for other lang than italy (or whatever) ?!

Irc Client is bit messy, cos it doesn't have dice rolling tools in it for some strange reason, and i don't want set up my own bot just for that ?!

Anyways, is there any good tool out there ?

As far as I am aware there are no real-time fully customizable tools.

SkiJunkie is slowly adding options into his.

Netbowl and the IRC client if I remember correctly doesn't really automate anything so it flexible in that you can play your own rules (BUT you have to know how they work).

The PBeM tool is so customizable its almost pathetic and most of the customization leads to pre-programmed automatic handling of the options BUT its not real-time.

I've said for a long time that if you mixed ALL the best features of SkiJunkie's program and the PBeM tool, you'd have a hell of a package.

My quick two cents ... if I was GW and REALLY wanted to produce a new software package for mass marketing of Blood Bowl, I would purchase the code rights along with the ability to question without limits the authors of Blood Bowl Alive, the PBeM tool, and SkiJunkie's Java client.

From Blood Bowl Alive, I steal the graphics and 3-D automation
From PBeM, I'd steal all the option customization, the play by play roll back logic, all the internet skill coding, the mailable log file option, and the cheat detection programming.
From SkiJunkie, I use this as the base for the core game with the real time play feature and such .... then mix in the elements above.

When I was finished I'd have one hell of a program that I don't think I'd have much trouble selling to the BB masses.

Well, regarding of NetBowl .. the current versión is 2.0 which allows team colouring, gathering data from an online html file, customized player images, IGMEOY marker, preset dice rolls, BB2k1 new tables, calculated passings, save situation of a game in progress, both it's own bot commands and BBIRC bot commands, doesn't need any IRC channel to play, since it's 'peer to peer', and you can change some .ini files to play it in spanish, english, french, german, swedish, or even korean (we need some translators thou)

The new starting 54 teams league has changed the url : http://usuarios.lycos.es/netbowl (also in spanish) and we are now in the process of recieving the teams generated to the BB2k1 standards, and fill in the teams in groups. The final launch is due next week, i hope.

If you have anymore questions about NetBowl, contact Eje, also on this board.

regards!
