Coming sometime next year to a PBeM game near you.

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

Many many many special thanks to Nick at
http://nkelsch.planet3k.com/default.aspx
for his creating these. They are finished.
Now all I have to do is turn them into seperate
icons and rewrite the PBeM to use them ...
going to take a while but it is coming someday.

This sneak peak is my Christmas gift to you all
to show what is coming:

P.S This is just the blue team ... Nick also made a Red
team and then all of have versions with Black backgrounds
to represent lost TZs from HGaze, Bonehead, and such.

Oh and Nick is joining the MBBL2 to play Orcs for Season 3 of that
league starting Jan 6th ... no pressure there to get the code done
so that he can play with the icons he's created for me ... eh?

Wow! That was fast! Those icons are really cool. It's amazing how much he was able to make such tiny characters different enough to basically tell them apart!

I appreciate the work involved, and I'm sure they'll bring a lot to a lot of players, but they're just a little..er..cartoony for my tastes. No offence intended, but I'm not sure I want my games to resemble Bomberman. Will they be optional?

They are in javabowl now, you can turn them off though, which many have, its hard to tell players apart at a glance and i find them too small. I am sure some people will love them.

Hmmm, most odd. Netscape also gives me an I/O error when trying to use the link provided as well.

Is anybody else having this problem, or is it just me? (Could it be something to do with bmp files on a UNIX workstation? Hmmm... probably not, but possibly.)

Cheers,
Martyn

Yes, Settings will be in the pbembb.ini file for UseIcons= .
Set to Yes to use them, No to not.

As for being cartoony ... Deathwing, the poor guy has only 20 by 20
pixels to work with ... high res graphics live action are a little difficult on
that scale ... you do understand that correct?

Anyway, yes they will definitely be optional. In fact the icon library like
the player image library will be a seperate download, so if you don't want
to use icons you don't even need to download them.

I wasn't disparaging his efforts or anything Tom, they're nice, just not to my tastes is all. And yes, I understand the pixel limitation, maybe just a head would be easier to do with a 20x20 limit.
Anyone remember the old Heroquest icons?

Wow they look great, didn't think they would be coming so soon :D

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

They look really, really, really sweet, but boy am I squinting to distinguish the difference between some of them. And that's not a complaint coz they are awesome, just an observation

I think they are great.
And off course they are not difficult to distinguish the difference, everybody can see that for example the amazon thrower have a glove on her right hand while the amazon blitzer does not.......... :-?

Some of them are a bit hard to see the difference between, but there are also many you can see the difference between.
