I must have missed something

Did they completely redo the NAF ratings? my Dwarf rating is down 15 points without having played a tourney with them in ages...

(Bloody Orc ranking went down at Carnage, too :(. I blame Not-a-DwarfCoach. )

Yes, they completely redid the NAF rankings. Or rather, they redid the formula they use to work them out. The main change involved the cap to the "k" value (number of coaches in attendance) IIRC. :)

Indeed, all tournaments are now capped at 30 people this means you'll win or loose an average 5 points for each game when playing more or less equally ranked coaches. The four majors and one big Aussie tournament are capped at 60.

What's the reason for this cap? I always thought the idea was:
bigger tourney -> more important tourney -> more points

The previous system completely skewed the rankings in favour of people who did well at one big tournament, as opposed to people who did well at many small tournaments. IIRC there were people in the high rankings who had only ever player one tournament, but that happened to be the BB.

it also put coaches outside europe at a distinct disadvantage as they had fewer, smaller tourneys so not only could they not play a lot but their matches weren't worth as much.
