24 Hour Tournament Advice

Post by ceetee »

SO...

Opening my tournament account this year with a 24 hour tournament this weekend. I've never played 11 games in a row before and 24 hours awake and focussing seems pretty daunting.

Just wanted to pick people's brains for their number 1 tip for 24 hour survival? Lots of dodge? Lots of red bull? Lots of not going to 24 hour tournaments, they're B**-S*** mental?

Cheers!

Only speaking from a personal experience, so take this with a pinch of salt, but...

Firstly, they're massively fun. Errors will be made, bad play will happen, everyone's in the same boat. Just laugh when stuff goes bad.

Over eleven games, you will dice someone off the field in a no contest game, and the same will happen back. Accept that and refer to point one.

Myself, I've played so many games on FUMBBL (Many late at night anyway) that I kind of kicked into autopilot at both 24 hour tourneys I went to. Don't try and overthink things and you'll be fine.

The killer isn't as the night goes by (I felt fine at both the ones I did way past 3am), the worst bit is the morning. When the sun starts coming up around 4-5am you hit a wall. I suffered this wall playing against Halflings and completely forgot how Stunty worked. Was just a bit dazed as his whole team walked past mine on rerollable 3's and spent a whole half trying to recover!

Treat it as a bit of fun, take something competetive if you're that way inclined too. I like something that has a bit of 'panic play' about them. You know, if it's 2am, you both are sick of your lives, and you just want to 'press the button'. I recommend some AG4 and/or strip ball to keep everyone honest in the wee hours.

Enjoy it dude, sure you will!

I've played (and survived) five 24hrs tournaments. Had loads of fun in each and everyone of them! Some tips could be:

Make sure you play a team you are comfortable with, so you can "auto-pilot" when you have a hard time thinking.

Get enough sleep in advance.

Go easy on the alcohol.

Don't get frustrated when dice don't go your way.

See you this weekend 8)

Thanks chaps, exactly the kind of advice I was after. I set off for Belgium at 4.30pm tomorrow and hopefully arrive in Antwerp at 7.30am Saturday.

I'll post back next week to let you know how it went.

1) take a pair or sleepers to the tournament and leave your shoes in the car.

2) select a not very complicated team, one you play by memory and you don't need to think a lot.

3) drink lots of coffe

4) if your oponent is fast you play fast, end quick the game and have a nap here and there.

I would not go for red bull or alcohol in great amount coffe or tea better.
