ARBBL tournament going forward

Chaps (and chapettes), I'm after some discussion on the future of the ARBBL tournaments.

Unfortunately, at least in the foreseeable future, there will only be one ARBBL event a year, mainly because a recent rota change means I'm getting less weekends off a year. And no, before you ask, there's no-one else within the club that wants to run one (Moodygi might, but he's in the same boat re: rotas).

Therefore, there will be no Pick'n'Mix this year.

So the question is, when I run the 2018 tournament (which is looking like late April) what rules to use? Do I stick with the traditional Open rules, switch the Pick'n'Mix to April or some sort of weird hybrid?

My personal leaning is towards just running the Open "as is" and leave the P'n'M n the back burner. People say there aren't enough team events, and yet it always seems to be a struggle to get people to commit to it (because of the weird rules?), plus needing a "spare" team of players (again, thanks to Moodygit, Lunchmoney and Loki last year).

Go ahead, and have your say - though if the only thing you want to bring up is bonus points, don't bother, as I'm keeping them.

I thought the P & M was always a bonus event, so I guess the logical extension of that is to keep the normal ARBBL rules.

Having said that I like the P & M rules and team tournaments, but I think the original rules are likely to attract more coaches and I think that is an important if not over-riding aspect.

Sorry to hear time constraints cause this issue, I very much value time organisers put into their events, more so as I doubt I could do it.

Needless, either choice of the ruleset probably wont impact on my attendance.

P&M is a bonus event, like Speedbowl. They happen if there's time but are not an annual event. Stick with the Open. And get your dates in before the others steal them ;)

Personally P&M is my favourite format of tourney of them all. And not just cause we always win :p Chance to face a wider selection of races and the increased social factor of the small teams is a massive plus.

I'm with Itchen ie P&M is my favourite format. Difficult one this though as also agree with Besters and Lunchmoney that team tourneys are a bonus and it would be a shame for ARBBL to lose it's main tourney to allow the P&M. Just a thought, but if you bill the P&M as the premier southern team event then perhaps another club could host this year ie rotate the P&M around some of the other clubs to share the workload?

So, it's not like i want to run the Pick and Mix, but I do want to run the Scrumpy Scramble again. If I have your blessing, that could be a team event just a little way up the 303 that could fill that slot. You could then concentrate on the main ARBBL?

Go for it (not that you need my blessing anyway).

ARBBL Open is planned for next year, the P'n'M is on hiatus.
If anyone wants to run a P'n'M-esque tournament, feel free - I wouldn't mind playing properly in one (rather than play & admin). ;)

A random thought that came to me on the way home from the ACC.

I might (and I stress, might!) be able to run a one-day event late next year, so this came to me.

You pick 3 teams (using the P'n'Mix tiers) that have to total 6 or more points.
You get X numbers of skills (to be decided, probably 10+2 doubles), that you can spread among your 3 teams however you like (so you might put all your skills on one team and have none on the other 2).
You play 1 game with each race, in the order you submitted to me in advance.

Would there be any takers?

I would play. This kind of tourney always appeals to me.

Definitely. Scrumpy Scramble used pretty much that exact ruleset
