UKTC 2019 forwards - would price increase put you off?
-Single large gaming hall
-Capacity for 200+ players
-Lunches on both days (possibly sandwiches, possibly hot and cold buffet)
-Bar on site adjacent to hall
Still in York, still at the same time of year.
Would a price increase to £40 or £45 be prohibitive? Captains, d'you think it would be harder to gather troops?
Depending on numbers I'd very much be hoping to provide prizes, trophies and tournament gifts for all as usual.
Just looking for feedback before I commit to a new venue.

I would be very surprised if people were bothered.

I think you would still get a large number of people interested. The food and bar is a good move, it may save people money having to buy fish & chips or snacks from the shop at lunch time.

Now it is £20, which is a bargain in my book given the scale and quality of the tournament, and the amazing freebies and prizes.
Lunch costs £7 (say), so that is £14 over two days: £34.
So, would I pay an extra £11/£16 for a large gaiming hall that we can all fit in, to have a competition with over 200+ coaches in teams?! Damn straight!
Pip - the tournament you are describing would be the best tournament in the world. Anyone who thinks £40 is too much is crazy. (Cue Garrick...)

Let me get my first one out of the way, but I don't think I'd be offended by a price rise.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Thanks all.
Pete your maths is surprisingly off for a maths teacher (it's currently £30, not 20) but I take the point for sure. Kind words!
Currently the £30 is split approximately as follows:
£10 venue hire
£15 tournament gift
£5 prizes, trophies, referee expenses
If £45 we might be looking at something like:
£20-25 food (2 x buffet lunches)
£10 venue hire
£5-10 tournament gift
£5 prizes, trophies, referee expenses
Above could be lower with sandwiches / packed lunch style but the buffet appeals as people can choose what they want / how much they want.
Venue I'm looking at is a little out of York centre so options for fish n chips, cafés, fast food etc. are limited. We have to include food really or else you might need to bring your own sarnies!
Surprised Lunchmoney doesn't have an opinion on this...

I do.Pipey wrote: Surprised Lunchmoney doesn't have an opinion on this...
But as I cant get to York it's not really my position to comment.
However, since you invoked me.....
£45 is getting close to NAFC price which some consider too pricey. However seeing your breakdown (which is nice to see, there was a thread a while back asking for TOs to share their costs, but it disappeared quickly) shows that £45 would be a fair price.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.
Bribe level: good coffee.

Thanks. Thought with your nickname you might have some ideas
I hope people would recognise they'd be getting more for their additional £15 (or £10). Also guess I'd be hoping people view this as a big NAFC-scale event and would be prepared to pay extra for that type of tournament.

As long as I do not need to apply for a visa to travel ...

...as long as the Pound keep being cheap it would cancel out the visa costs
Seriously though: Entry cost is not something I (we?) travelling from abroad is overly concerned about, so it would make no difference. Adjacent bar and more goodies? Yes, please.

This applies to some of us within the UK too. Once you allow for two nights accommodation and travel costs plus other expenses, an extra £10-15 on the entry fee is a minor impact.straume wrote:...as long as the Pound keep being cheap it would cancel out the visa costs

Thanks for feedback all. Feels like in general the extra fees in return for meals and enhanced venue would be acceptable.

I'm not adverse to the price increase with the inclusion of lunches etc.
£45 for two days is good value anyway in my opinion.

Similar thoughts from me to most of the other feedback i.e. the extra cost would be significantly offset by the provision of two meals and there certainly appears to be enough interest to justify a larger venue.
