I chose York because I know it. I used to live there. I felt my home in the north east (e.g. Durham or Newcastle) was too far out of the way for those travelling north. Therefore York (an hour or more further south) seemed a good option, also well connected by rail in particular.

Sheffield may be easier for all to get to, I don't know. To be honest I've no intention of looking in an unfamiliar city another hour further down the country from me.

Dealer's choice. If Pipey is going to do all the work of running this amazing event he can hold it wherever he wants.

York's flippin' miles away (4.5 hours journey home yesterday).

But it was worth the drive!

Will be recruiting for a SAWBBL team for next year, or if not will be merc/media/score consultant/dogsbody again.

Everywhere is far for us up in Aberdeen. York is the guts of 7hrs with stops etc, Nottingham 8.5ish. Even Glasgow and Edinburgh are 2.5hrs away.

But, the trip is absolutely worth it. I haven’t been in York for about 25 years so it was nice to see the place again.

UKTC 4 was great, thanks to Pipey and the team for pulling it together and we’ll be back next year (hopefully with two teams!!).

I’m up for this. Though the prospect of nine hours in the Venga bus might mean I end up needing to overdose on my ADHD meds! :o

Nothing against any organising or York as a place. Totally get why it's there etc. I love it.
I just feel guilty spending my time there rolling dice

Overall, a price increase is all gravy if the tournament continues to improve in the way it has and you want it to, Pipey.

I'm with Mubo on the tournament gifts. I'm no tourney addict, so I haven't collected the myriad dice, tokens and paraphernalia that other coaches' peregrinations have garnered them, but even my slow rate of accretion of gifts has started to fill my dice bag (itself a tournament gift, albeit one of the best I've received).

If funds go into the venue/food/drink and the gifts are toned down somewhat, I'd still consider that money well spent!
It's a tough marketplace out there though, not many niches left to fill.

I'm also with Northernknight on not being able to appreciate York as much over the weekend. Maybe the increased admission could be spent on tour guides and cut the tourney to 4 or 5 games :D
