Anyone experience in making molds?

Post by Tojurub »

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody has made molds before (for sceneries). I bought some silikon molds to make bricks and stuff (forgot the name, but it should be well-known). Unfortunatelly if you want to make larger things, like walls along a pitch, etc, it can take forever to mold every single brick. So I was thinking about building one larger piece of wall and use some kind of silikon to make a mold and use that instead of the small pieces.

Anybodz any ideas or comments?

8) Hirst Arts has a tutorial on how to make molds, including materials needed. Here is the link.

Good luck!

I've made a ton of moulds for a ton of different applications (everything from pewter casting to ceramic slip casting to concrete casting). The hirst arts site really does have pretty much all the info you need. There's also an excellent yahoogroup dedicated to casting-- you'll find some zany ideas on there but also a lot of help.

Yep, worked pretty well for me. I did manage to makle one hell of a mess, but the models that came out were pretty damn cool...

The best box for molds is LEGO. Sturdy an arrangeable in a variety of sizes.

And it's a nice reminiscence to long passed youth. When I visited my parents last christmas, I asked for my old LEGO exactly for this purose. Well, they seemd to be a little bit irritated for the first moment .... :)

Just a little (but very important) point. Don´t forget to give a fine varnish cover on plastilin (purple stuff at my picture). retire (if not) could be difficult.
