Norse presents...

Post by Norse »

a 20 year step back in time to when I used to see a mini I liked, buy it, and paint it from start to finish in an afternoon, long before the idea of painting (or having the money for :blue: ) squads, teams or units ever existed..

lovely Knight/Paladin mini from Reaper, horrendous mould lines though.. :-?

this is about 3 hours of work from start to finish, painted up to use as a Knight for Talisman or future games of WHQ...

Nice. I wish I could/hope to be able to learn to do that kind of free hand work. Looks good. :)

Great result for just 3 hours work. Wish I was that fast! The white in particular looks nice & crisp

He doesn't look too old, he looks distinguished, like the paladin that Heresy released as one of the first heroes they did (although initially he had a choice of heads)

it's not my "best" work by far, but given my kids will be handling him as much as I will, I needed to make a decision about where to call it a day.

Majortusk (come back Andy, all is forgiven! :blue: ) introduced me to a Tamiya wash called Smoke a few years ago.. for painting metallics it's absolutely incredible, I LOVE it.. takes 2 mins to paint armour and it looks fantastic afterwards. Dullcote takes off the shine nicely. Though in the case above, dullcote also ruined my gem in the middle of his shield! Maybe I need another drop of gloss on that baby! :smoking:

I second the awesomeness of tamiya smoke. I stumbled across it years ago, but had forgotten about it. It is great for quick metals. Thanks for the reminder.

Are you sure that's a Reaper mini? It looks like Hell Dorado Guillaume de Sable. Just saw it on CMON :)

got this Sons of Chronos standard bearer years ago because I wanted to convert another mini in the same pack for my Norse team (still unfinished  )...

anyway, snipped off the banner pole, stuck on a orc spear tip and I have a barbarian/highlander/marauder type.. took 2 hours until I decided to paint the cloak in a tartan style.. true tartans would have had a third colour, but then it would have taken me over my self imposed 3 hours max per mini limit.. I included a close up of the gem on the belt buckle because I'm really pleased with how it came out!

Lovely paint job!
Just to poke you ( :D ) that guy's looking so cool he really deserved a third colour on his tartan.
For real.

Edit: Oh, and as long as you use it on the tabletop, you'll probably be keep looking at it and have that "should have painted the third colour" feeling... :orc:

I'll probably think that, yes...

Until my kids drop him on the floor repeatedly, then I'll wonder why I painted him at all! ;-)
