Benchwarmer League

Post by Pitch Invader »

I had an idea the other week, that came from thinking about the Ape roster, comparing it to the Orc roster, and thinking how Orc teams almost never field linemen. and that a lot of teams very quickly have a minimum of linemen on the field or even on the team roster.

So here's the idea, similar to leagues/tournaments using rules like Street Ball & Blood Bowl 7's, but a full team for regular Blood Bowl. Maybe it would represent a 'Minor League' but not as minor as BB7s, or maybe there is a big strike of some union of the better players disputing their endorsement deals.

Construction guideline:

1. All teams have 900k to build their teams from.
2. Any team position that is listed as 0-2 availability is now 0-1.
2a exception: Halflings & Goblins both retain 0-2 for Treemen & Trolls respectively.
3. Any team position that is listed as 0-4 availability is now 0-2.
4. Any team position that is listed as 0-6 availability is now 0-4.
5. No Star Players of any kind are allowed: not to roster, not to induce.

The idea is to shift the weight of the team to rely more on the unsung linemen and so see them be played more and have them develop to fill the roles the other positions would have been purchased to play.

Maybe some combination of the following would do the trick:

1. At least 3 linemen must line up on the Line of Scrimmage for a Kickoff?

2. No more than 8 players on a team may be non-linemen?

3. Make linemen cost half what they do now? Maybe even free?

Your thoughts?

Maybe even free?
If they are free, you have more money for specialist. Not all team have lineman (Ogres? Lizards? What is the lineman of that team? Snot? Skink? And so on.)

One suggestion: re-writing the rule of "journey man" (the rule which say: you get linemen at normal cost if you have less than 11 players) in "you have linemen at normal cost if you have less than the number of player whe the team begin". Look that in the team with both fragile and expensive players, there is a lot of linemen (exemple: forest elves) because of journeyman. If you need that 11 players, it is more interesting to begin with 11 and the specialist and buy linemen in a second time, cause of this rule. (if you begin at 12, but non specialist, and have one casualty in the first match, you begin the second match at 11, but with non specialists. If you begin at 11 with specialist, casualty, you begin the second match at11, but with specialists.
