Doubling or tripling skills...?

Post by anc001 »

I wonder what people think about being able to take certain skills a second or third time, giving the corresponding bonus again.
For example
if you have Dodge, you can reroll a failed dodge once per turn, if you have Dodge[2] you can reroll two failed dodges a turn.
if you have Accurate, you have +1 to pass rolls, if you have Accurate[2] you have +2 to pass rolls.
if you have Mighty Blow, you can add 1 to either armour or injury roll, if you have Mighty Blow[2] you can add 2 to either armour or injury roll.
if you have Sprint you can attempt 1 extra GFI, if you have Sprint[2] you can attempt 2 extra GFIs
if you have Disturbing Presence your opponent subtracts 1 from certain dice rolls, if you have Disturbing presence[2], they subtract 2 from dice rolls

etc

thoughts?

Interesting. Mighty Blow would become the most stacked skill in history, I would reckon. Unless you can also take Guard[x], which allows you to provide +x strength to all your assists. Or Piling On[x], which allows you to re-roll armour and injury up to x times. Or maybe Frenzy[x] for the pitch-clear! Stay well away from those sidelines!!!

How about skills that trump/cancel each other? For example, if you have Block[x] and your opponent has Block[y], where y < x, then they go down on a Both Down, and you don't. Also, Block[x] will trump Wrestle[y]. Similar for Tackle and Dodge stacking. Yay for arms races! ;)

But in all seriousness, it would probably narrow development trees down even more than they already are. The core/killing skills would get stacked to buggery, and the more esoteric skills would be almost utterly ignored.

There used to be levels for skills, and iirc MB was the single most "leveled" skill.

some good points, an idea I hadn't thought of was multiple levels of Block, on a both down the player with Block[2] would stay up and the player with Block [1] would go down. That would certainly narrow skill choice alot, given how prevalent the valuable skills like block already are.

Although this could amke things interesting with existing rosters, dwarf linemen for example might start with Block[2] and Wardancers start with Block[1] :)
