World Cup 2015 : relative representation

Hello,

I've used this data on games played over the last couple of years to work out which nations have sent the best representation to the World Cup relative to the perceived size of their scene.

Italy - 13.0% of games played vs 30.6% of teams at WC 2015
France - 16.9% of games vs 21.5% of teams
Spain - 16.0% of games vs 13.9% of teams
UK - 14.9% of games vs 8.3% of teams
Germany - 7.0% of games vs 5.6% of teams
Belgium - 3.8% of games vs 2.1% of teams *
Netherlands - 1.4% of games vs 0.7% of teams
Austria - 0% of games vs 1.4% of teams *
Switzerland - 0.4% of games vs 1.4% of teams
Portugal - 0% of games vs 1.4% of teams
Denmark - 1.4% of games vs 5.6% of teams
Sweden - 2.9% of games vs 2.1% of teams
Hungary - 0% of games vs 1.4% of teams
Canada - 3.0% of games vs 0.7% of teams
United States - 8.5% of games vs 1.4% of teams
Australia - 6.0% of games vs 1.4% of teams
New Zealand - 1.0% of games vs 0.7% of teams

I wasn't going to include non-European teams here as their attendance is purely a coincidence of geography and it seems mean spirited. But actually they have smashed it in a relative sense, so well done guys!

* Eurobowl games removed.

Just a bit of fun. The huge Italian presence has distorted the numbers I guess, but well done guys! Who knew there were 264 Italian NAF members! Other than than the best showings were from France and Denmark, and the worst from the UK. Special mention to New Zealand who have almost matched their representation despite having the furthest to travel!

nice data, very interesting.

I saw the player breakdown on the NAF boards a minute ago, but games played is a very informative twist.

I also noticed that this post took you to 8880, with 888 players heading to Lucca is this some sort of sign?

It is actually worse than that as 12 teams out of 148 is 8.1% and if you take out the non English teams then 9 out of 148 is 6.1%.

We were surprised to find out there are so few English teams going as with one from Wales and two from Scotland that would have extrapolated if you compared the relative populations to twenty teams from England!

Yep, but there are no numbers for English-only games played so I couldn't do the other side of that comparison.

Do you have access to the previous WCs info? I was trying to found it out in the NAF forum without success.

Would be also interesting which communities present higher % of growing from one WC to the next one.

Agree that to be informative, would be also useful to have numbers including and excluding italians.

Good job BTW.

At World Cup 2, there were 80 teams. They're listed here : http://bloodbowlworldcup.denes.nl/ranking/teams.pl

France : 14 teams
Italy : 12 teams
Spain : 12 teams
UK : 11 teams (don't know about England / Scotland / Wales repartition)
Germany : 7 teams
Belgium : 5 teams
Danemark : 4 teams
Australia : 3 teams (maybe New Zealand counted in)
Netherlands : 3 teams
Austria : 2 teams
Switzerland : 2 teams
Canada : 1 team
Portugal : 1 team
USA : 1 team
+2 mercenary teams

Don't Forget that the number of teams per country was limited at the WC2011. Only 5 teams for Belgium. Only 14 for France. Etc.
I remember of thé frustration from some community...

This time it was no limit. So it s not really comparable.

@Babass

Teams were limited for some countries, like France and Spain and maybe Italy?
Other counties were already at the limit, for various reasons.
If the venue would have been larger, around 10 interested teams could've gone.
(This is just a fact, not a meant as remark of any kind to the Dutch hosts of WC2)

Agree. Just would see the evolution of the attendance, don't want to enter in this issue as I was one of the players that could not come in 2011 :(

Any link for the 2007 info?
