After the world finally discovered why Halflings play Blood Bowl, it still needed figuring out what made them endure those slow going, never ending Treeman tales. Do you remember the journalist who foolishly interviewed Oak Prolix? Last I’ve heard, he died, got resurrected by a Necromancer and is still recording as a Zombie (imagine the pay check he’s about to receive!). The trouble with Treemen is, after 250 years or so, they tend to take root permanently and start waffling away. Thank Nuffle, Deeproot Strongbranch is still a couple of hundred years away from that. He talks rather curtly, almost never takes root and is motivated by the promise he made last season, “I won’t retire until a Halfling team wins the Blood Bowl!” Well, as mentioned, a couple of hundred years away from…
More than any other Treeman, Deeproot took a deep liking to those little Halflings and him turning up at their matches is sometimes the only thing that saves the plucky, little guys from extinction. The sheer force of nature that dwells in his slow moving trunk has shocked unprepared Deathroller Drivers into a full break everywhere. The player that can overpower Strongbranch still needs to be invented. No wonder that every Halfling team is eager to hide behind his strong, steadfast trunk and his powerful sweeps that sail crushingly through the opposition. As the coach of the Underworld Creepers once said, “Not fair! We were supposed to play Halflings, not that thing.” Guess, that’s what it is.
