Horkon Heartripper is an offspring from one of the richest families in Naggaroth. And as only the best education was just good enough for a lad of his status, his parents sent him to the finest of schools possible: the Assassin Academy, to make Horkon a ruthless, cold-blooded, well trained, totally unforgiving and freaked out killing machine, with distinguished style.
And Horkon didn’t fail in his promises and in the faith of his parents. He did not only become best of his class, but he also took out three teachers along the way. But how did he end up playing Blood Bowl? Fairly simple, after a stunning series of perfectly executed executions, his hiring sum became so exorbitant that only Blood Bowl teams could manage to pay it.
Horkon had a Blood Bowl career that was nothing short of miraculous. He managed to play 34 consecutive matches against coach-less opponents, ended the career of 256 guarding linemen, 143 hopefuls, 98 star players, 81 reserve players and 62 players in retirement, which makes Horkon the most mentioned player in the Hall of Fame. Nothing less than 84 entries end with the wording: “career ended by Horkon Heartripper”. Or, as Lineman Walter Steinhauser once put it: “When Horkon got you at the point of his blade, you can sign with the Champions.” Although it remains unclear how he meant it, as Horkon did get him shortly after, and Walter didn’t sign with either.

When Horkon Heartripper was signed to his first Blood Bowl contract, it was to a Dark Elf side that intended to use him as a runner. He was something of a failure at that position, however, for when opposing defenses would close on him, young Horkon refused to simply dump the ball off to a teammate. Though he could hurl the ball with amazing force and uncanny accuracy, it would invariably be aimed at the vital areas of his onrushing opponents. Innumerable eyes were gouged and jaws broken by a football hurtling forth from Horkon’s fingertips. The deadly projectiles even accounted for a few collapsed lungs and at least one ruptured skull, and by the end of the season Horkon led the league in casualties. Unfortunately, he also led in turnovers and his team finished at the bottom of the table.

Realizing an opportunity amid crisis, Horkon’s coach responded not by cutting the failed runner, but by simply removing his ballcarrying responsibilities and giving free reign to Horkon’s murderous impulses. The following season, Horkon became even more deadly, as he incorporated an arsenal of varied weapons into his repertoire. He started off within his comfort zone, using javelins and shuriken to dispatch his foes, but soon found greater joy in murder at close range. In the latter half of his second season, Horkon killed over a dozen players by garrote (three at once on one memorable occasion) and famously forced poison lozenges down the throat of a Reikland blitzer. Horkon’s antics were a great hit with the more bloodthirsty fans, who would stage huge riots each time their idol was ejected from a match. Certain vocal and well-connected purists were less impressed, and expressed outrage at the unprecedented carnage on the pitch.

Faced with mounting pressure from each side, the NAF responded by passing a ruling known as the Heartripper Exception, which stated that blades of less than 12 inches in length would be categorized as “detachable cleats” and were thus exempt from the rules concerning banned weapons. While this ruling would limit Horkon’s choice of tools, he quickly became all the more adept with dirks and daggers. The position of assassin would eventually become a fairly common sight on Dark Elf rosters, but none has ever surpassed Horkon Heartripper’s killing ability. Against lightly armored opponents, the hateful Elf has been known to dispatch a dozen players per match, and once accounted for an entire team of goblins before the first half had ended.
